2018 Cipollini SPEED
Even if you have never ridden a track bike, just looking at the Cipollini Speed will make you want to take to the boards. And though you would be a welcome addition to the scrum, the designers behind the Speed really have tried to think of everything a seriously advanced track rider would want to have with a bike, and make it happen here. That attention to detail, though is exactly what makes this the perfect track bike for expert and neophyte alike.
To begin with, we are talking about a lightweight monocoque carbon frame made from Torayca’s T1000.M46J carbon fiber, which offers among the highest tensile and compression strength of any Toray’s carbon options. It ensures the frame will be both light and super strong. Compliance doesn’t figure quite as much with a track bike, so this baby is stiff. We mean like really stiff. It is ideal for those mega accelerations on pine smooth tracks that will be the nanosecond of difference between a world record and finishing out of the placings.
As a drop bar track bike, aerodynamics remains paramount, and the Cipollini Speed have been given tubes with an aero shape such as the headtube that has been slightly bowed out like the prow of a ship to help cut through the muggy air you’ll often find in velodromes. The seat tube has been curved to follow the shape of the rear wheel very closely, reducing the possibility of air disturbance causing drag. Similarly, the point where the fork head and down tube are in closest proximity has been smoothed over with a little lip putting the two as close as possible, again with an eye towards keeping things smooth in the air. The down tube has also been slightly sculpted to conform to the shape of the front wheel. All these little bits of detail will combine to keep the frame functioning as a dramatically responsive and aerodynamic track bike.
The geometry indicates the fact that Cipollini sees this as a bike that will be among the medal winners since it is very aggressive, with a stiff front end provided by the carbon fork to keep the handling super responsive. Similarly the 68mm English threaded bottom bracket will add that dose of practicality while helping to build a seriously strong center point through which to transfer your power.
Though it has been designed with a vision of Olympic gold somewhere in the future, the Cipollini Speed will be an ideal track bike for any rider who is looking to make the most out of every training session. Available in five sizes from XS to XL, this is a track bike that will help you feel better faster.
