2017 Cipollini NKTR
Racing pursuit on the track demands a ton of watts being laid out as efficiently as possible, which means you need a super stiff bike that will still be lightweight and incredibly stable. The Cipollini NKTR is exactly that, and then some. This is not a frame that you will want to splurge on ahead of racing the Red Hook circuit; rather, this is an exceptional bike for track specialist.
Just like with a time trial bike, aerodynamics is a huge consideration in the design of a pursuit track bike. The monocoque fork has been sculpted to offer an sharp leading edge to the wind. It has also been integrated into the front end with the one-piece stem and flat bars, while the top of the downtube and the back of the fork are kissing distance from each other to smooth out the airflow at this important juncture.
The geometry is appropriately aggressive, and anyone who wants to race this bike should definitely be working on flexibility since you’ll need to be able to get into a very low tuck to make the most of this bike’s potentials. However, they have allowed for a 12mm height adjustment possibility at the headset, so you can fiddle with the fit till it’s perfect. Optimizing aerodynamics also figured in the shaping of the tubes so that they will cut through the wind efficiently, while the integrated seat clamp sits flush with the top tube so that you can easily adjust your seat height without worrying that that area will suffer any unwanted drag.
Since we are talking about a pursuit bike, there is no question that rigidity was seriously important in the development of this bike. But since the Cipollini frames typically fall on the more rigid side of the spectrum, there was never any doubt they would nail it here as well. The 68mm threaded bottom bracket is as beastly and rigid as any of the Cipo road bikes, while the elegant Atomlink used for the chainstays flow back towards the wheel hub, tucking it neatly in out of the wind. The overall effect being that you will be able to count on a stable ride that can still enhance your reaction times should the unexpected happen right in front of you while you are riding your eyeballs out.
Available in four sizes and four color options, there should be no trouble in finding an NKTR that fits your body and your tastes equally well. But most importantly, the Cipollini NKTR is a pure track bike intended to help make all your hard training pay off with some record setting lap times.
