2020 Basso Pista
It may seem ironic that though track racing goes back to the very roots of competitive cycling, the bikes are often at the very cutting edge of technology use. Sure, we’re talking about one gear here, but oh boy what a gear. The Basso Pista carbon fiber track bike has been developed to keep you fast and ahead of the competition.
Since serious stiffness is essential for any track bike, the Pista frame has been made using monocoque T700 Torayca carbon fiber with a layup specifically designed to resist any torsional movement under even the greatest loads. It means that even when you are churning the pedals accelerating out of the starting blocks, you won’t feel one hint of deflection from the threaded bottom bracket up to the tapered headtube. They have also taken a leaf out of their Diamante road book, and given the Blade Front end the semi-integrate design that helps the fork, stem, headset and frame work seamlessly together. The Basso spacers will then allow you to adjust the height of your bars without compromising rigidity. This being a pure track bike, the handling is appropriately nimble and responsive. You need to feel in complete control, and the Pista makes you think you are at one with the bike. The track-traditional raised bottom bracket enhances the power transfer and how easily you can dart around the banked boards.
For the aero shape of the tubes, Basso revisited their wind tunnel test design for the Konos TT bike to ensure that the Pista will slice through the heavy velodrome air. The straight fork has been bladed to slice through the air while the oversized down tube works both to keep the frame super stiff and ensure the bike’s drag will be minimal. Similarly, the seat tube has been given a classic teardrop shape with the seatstays neatly flowing into the tube to keep all airflow stable and as undisrupted as possible. The rear wheel has been placed as close to the seat tube as possible with a special little aero fairing.
The geometry encourages a classic, quick track setup with a long reach and slightly more moderate stack, you will be able to get into a real racing position to attack the banking. And the 373mm chainstays, pretty short even by track standards, will help you whip this baby around the competition during a Scratch or Elimination race.
The Basso Pista carbon fiber track bike is a machine purely designed for taking on the toughest competition in velodromes around the world. If you are looking to up your game and reduce your lap times, the Pista is an excellent way to make that happen.
