2018 Time Izon
With a classic racing geometry and lightweight build, the Time Izon is a prime option for your alpine racer or downtown crit series. Taking inspiration from the types of climbs you’ll find near the Time headquarters, the designers have endeavored to create a bike that is light enough to be fun hauling up the mountain, and balanced enough to feel safe railing the descent.
They are able to find this perfect combo because they are in complete control of the build process, right down to the weaving of the frame materials. So when they weave the Vectran and the carbon together, they are making the frame not only very light, but also rigidly responsive and with the help of the Vectran fiber, excellent at absorbing road vibrations. They want the handling to be light and precise, so that you can deftly control this bike no matter the terrain. Then their Resin Transfer Molding process helps them keep the material to a minimum, consequently keeping the weight down, by injecting the resin under high pressure, ensuring a consistent level of resin used, with no chance of an excess amount unnecessarily adding to the weight. With a neutral head tube angle and tight wheelbase, you will be looking for the tightest descents that you can whip this thing down, it’ll be that much fun.
You will have the choice between going with a standard carbon fork or the Time Aktiv fork that will improve your comfort levels while not compromising anything in the handling department. This is Time’s special fork that comes with a built in vibration dampers to soak up any road chatter that might want to reverberate up to your hands and arms. You can also choose between a standard seatpost and the Translink integrated seatpost. Integrated seatposts are not always the easiest things to deal with, but the increase in stiffness especially for in-the-saddle attacks can be worth the added hassle and expense.
The internal cable routing will accommodate both electronic and mechanical groupsets. This is the rim brake version of the Izon, but you can also find the disc brake option on Wrench Science, so maybe the biggest decision you’ll have to make is whether you want the stopping power of disc brakes, or the classic look and weight savings of this Izon. Designed to be lively and dynamic in the high mountains, the Time Izon is that bike that will have you dreaming of your next trip to altitude.
