2017 Pinarello GAN K Disk Ultegra Bike

The Gan K Disk brings everything we love about the GAN line into an affordable endurance disk bike. But make no mistake, this bike benefits from all the trickle down technology from the elite Dogma line, home of the legendary Dogma F8. The GAN K Disk has Dogma and GAN standard features such as asymmetrical frame design, Think2 internal cable routing, FlatBack tubes, as well as a slew of other features that make a Pinarello a Pinarello.

The GAN K Disk is ideal for endurance rides. It features a longer wheelbase and more upright riding position than the rest of the GAN series of bikes, making it less punishing on the rider’s body for long days in the saddle. Disc brakes bring efficient stopping power to this road bike.

Asymmetry is important in Pinarello’s bike design because all bikes are naturally asymmetrical. The drivetrain of the bike is only on one side, leading to a weight and flex difference. Pinarello found that a frame can flex nearly 5mm on one side and only 1-2 on the other. Their solution was to remove carbon from the side that was too rigid, making it more flexible, and added carbon to the side that was too flexible making it more rigid. The end result uses asymmetry to create symmetry.

Another innovation by the team at Pinarello is in the FlatBack tube design, a standard feature on the entire Dogma line that has trickled down to the GAN line as well. The FlatBack design drastically reduces drag and improves aerodynamics, making for a fast wind separating ride. According to Pinarello, a true aerodynamic tube would have a profile of 8:1. However the max allowed by the UCI is 3:1. A standard 3:1 tube actually increases aerodynamic drag because of the oval or egg shape that results. This was a problem, but Pinarello had a solution: flatten the back of the tubes. This truncated airfoil design reduces drag considerably, giving you a ride that slices through the wind on its way to the winner’s podium.

T600 carbon is used in the construction of the frameset. This carbon has more flex to it than a more expensive carbon fiber, a factor that Pinarello has addressed by increasing the thickness of the tubes. The GAN K Disk displays the stiffness and responsiveness you expect from a Pinarello, at a lower price point than the Dogma series.

The GAN K Disk is a bike that will not disappoint. It has the same technology as the Dogma brand and is built from the same mold as the rest of the GAN line. This might just be the best bike you’ll ride all year.
