2019 Pinarello Dogma K10-S Disk
As nostalgic as we all can get about cycling, with the wool jerseys and lace-up road shoes we may wear, there can hardly be any doubt that there has never been a better time to be a cyclists, certainly from a variety of choice point of view. Nowadays, changing out components, tire sizes, or even brake types is nearly as easy as substituting corn instead of anchovies on our pizza. If you love the look of the Pinarello F10, like the idea of fitting 28mm tires like the K10, but really want to move forward with disc brakes, then holy mackerel, have we got the bike for you. The Pinarello Dogma K10-S Disk is the racing bike equivalent of a pizza Diavola with extra spicy Italian meatballs on top.
Just like the rim brake version of the K10, this K10-S Disk uses the same Toray T1100 1K carbon fiber that ensures a light, responsive frame, and since Pinarello have perfected the asymmetric layering that beefs up the drivetrain side while not adding heft to the overall weight. Focusing on the high-end build a frame of this caliber demands, the down tube has the Shimano Di2 junction box hiding space while the importance of the Pinarello Internal Cable Routing capability is highlighted by the fact it receives its own acronym: ICR. You’ll also get the benefit of the subtle aero profiling that the F10 sports, so that the oversized down tube with the flattened kammtail or FlatBack will, along with the seat tube, give you an aero advantage without suffering an unforgivingly jarring ride. Using the same F10 Onda fork, with the aero “fork flaps” will make sure your front end feels secure and balanced while absorbing tons of road chatter before it reaches your hands and wrists.
The geometry has received the same endurance-focused adjustments as the K10, so the wheelbase gets a touch longer thanks to the chainstays, enhancing stability while the stack is higher and the reach is shortened with a slackened headtube angle. And maybe most excitingly, the fork and rear stays accommodate 28mm tires. If you do like to venture onto washer board dirt roads on occasion, then you will be pleased that the chainstays receive special attention with a flattened shape to enhance vertical compliance while the seatstays and seat tube have a FlatBack shape for aero but also a carbon layup that helps absorb road vibrations before they reach your hindquarters. Add to that the K10-S Disk comes standard with Pinarello’s elastomer suspension which they developed to smooth out the cobbles of northern France for Team Sky which not only makes the ride more comfortable, but enhances your traction on the roughest roads. That’s the key to keeping your speed up. And then if that’s not good enough, you can make a special order upgrade to the Electronic Dogma Suspension System (EDSS). It works by using a six-axis gyroscope that senses the changes in road surface and in less than a second can adjust the shock from lockout on normal roads to suspension that can absorb kinderkopf cobble impacts increasing comfort and ensuring consistent ground contact.
This is a UCI approved design that will accommodate the most advanced components with its Think2 System with E-Link which just means that it is developed with electronic groupsets in mind. If you do want the upgrade, though, it’ll run you a cool $8450, and must be special ordered since there will be no stateside stock.
Happily Pinarello sticks with their habit of offering a large number of sizes so that even the tallest and shortest among us should find the perfect match for a Dogma K10-S Disk.
