2019 Pinarello Dogma FS
To a certain extent, it might look like the Pinarello Dogma FS is trying to solve a problem most of us don’t have: how to get to the finish line of the Paris-Roubaix with our undercarriage intact. In fact, how many of us even have the chance to face kinderkopf style cobbles like you might find in northern France? But that doesn’t mean that the Dogma FS has no place in your cycling life. Au contraire! Pinarello has developed the Dogma FS not just for those big boys at Sky – or Ineos now – but for any rider who wants the smooth and responsive handling synonymous with Pinarello, with the added benefit of vibration dampening suspension.
That really isn’t as odd as it sounds. Whether you are looking to ease the pain of rides over rough Midwest roads or just like the idea of having the newest tech to keep you comfortable for longer, the Pinarello Dogma FS will be an ideal addition to your collection. As a full suspension road bike, the FS really is a nifty mash up of all that we love about bikes. For starters, the frame is made using the same high quality carbon that sets Pinarellos apart from just about every other brand. The Carbon Torayca T1100 1K Dream Carbon with Nanoalloy Technology is a mouthful, but makes it possible to keep the frame light, responsive, and durable.
Then adding the front and rear Dogma Smart Adaptive System (DSAS) suspension increases the bikes ability to guard you from neck, back, bum and arm fatigue that eats into the enjoyment of any ride, especially those over rough roads. This system is the first smart electronically activated suspension for front and rear. That means that it will automatically lock out when you hit smooth sections of road so that the damper is not absorbing your power, but then unlock when you hit the rougher sections. You can also manually override the system easily if you want to keep it locked. The mechanism in the fork works via an electronically controlled coil spring – with the CPU in the seat tube – while the rear shock takes the place of the usual Pinarello monostay, and offers 10mm of rear travel. If you are coming from mountain biking, that might not sound like a ton. But this system isn’t meant to let you take leaps off big drops. Rather, it will help you keep your traction and minimize fatigue over rough roads that would more likely bounce you about.
On top of all this, you’ll get a geometry that guarantees stability without sapping the snappiness. This is a UCI approved design that will accommodate the most advanced components with its Think2 System with E-Link which just means that it is developed with electronic groupsets in mind. The down tube has the Shimano Di2 junction box hiding space while the importance of the Pinarello Internal Cable Routing capability is highlighted by the fact it receives its own acronym: ICR. You’ll also get the benefit of the subtle aero profiling that the F10 sports, so that the oversized down tube with the flattened kammtail or FlatBack will, along with the seat tube, give you an aero advantage without suffering an unforgivingly jarring ride. The aero “fork flaps” will also make sure your front end feel secure and balanced.
The Pinarello Dogma FS will accommodate up to 28mm tires to match those rough roads you’ll be seeking out once you order this technically advanced racing bike. Available in four sizes, the Dogma FS will be ideal for all types of rides on all roads, and definitely turn a few heads in the process.
