2017 Pinarello Dogma F8 Disk
Though you may have read when the F10 was unveiled in early 2017 that Fausto Pinarello didn’t intend to disk brake that bike since it’s a bike for pros, and pros don’t need disc brakes, you might be surprised to see that Pinarello has deigned to create an epic disc brake bike with the Dogma F8 Disk. Just think of it as representative of that inevitable, eternal push-pull within the cycling industry. As old fashioned and traditional as we often like to think we are, we all still get hot and bothered about the latest kit, advancement, and bike bling.
With the F8 Disk you’re getting the amazing handling and acceleration that has been winning one day classics and the Tour de France. The frame has been made using the same Torayca T1100 1K Dream Carbon with nano-alloy technology that is used for the F10. That’s perhaps another reason why Fausto doesn’t really see the need for an F10 Disc version. Torayca have long been the source for Pinarello’s carbon ambitions, and this time have really out-performed with a stiffness to weight ratio that would been untouchable just a season or two ago. Now it means that you can count on this disc brake bike to be able to handle the roughest roads while still providing the sort of snappy acceleration that is de rigueur for a proper road bike. Since the geometry of the Pinarellos hasn’t changed, you can expect the handling to offer the same precision whether you are railing a descent or weaving your way through a pock-marked forest road. You may remember, too, that the F8 non-disc bike was a Pinarello revolution in terms of just how much emphasis the design put on the bike being aero. Indeed, once the disc brakes are included, this becomes just about the most utilitarian super-bike you could buy. Though they have continued with the innovative asymmetric carbon layup of the non-disc F8, this frame has been developed to be used with flat mount disc standard, which means you’ll be able to build it up with the latest and greatest of hydraulic brakes. Thru axles have also been included, so that you can count on the strength and stability of the frame even when you are slamming on the brakes. The Onda fork is made from the same Torayca T1100 1K nanoalloy carbon as the frame, and has been given a tapered 1-1/8" to 1-1/2" steerer to provide tons of rigidity while the Onda shape provides the expected comfort that we love from the carbon layup and shape.
The frame can accommodate either mechanical or electronic internal cable routing, which will keep things looking very smooth and clean, while the battery for your electric setup will hide from the wind and prying eyes in the seatpost. The Italian threaded bottom bracket is enclosed by the impressive Pinarello bottom bracket shell, which is a great hint for just how responsive and rigid the acceleration of the bike will be.
If you are especially tall or perhaps a little short, you will love the fact that a high quality monocoque carbon frame like a top of the line Pinarello comes in so many sizes. Starting with a 42cm sloping, you can find one that will fit you all the way up to a 62cm.
For anyone looking for a great way to make the most of old-time high-quality frame building while taking advantage of the newest and greatest technological advances, the Pinarello F8 Disk road bike will help you keep one foot on the traditional side of Italian bikes and one foot firmly planted on the modern side of the divide.
