2020 Pinarello Dogma F12 XLight Disk
There was a time, not too long ago either, when you might have considered a road bike with disc brakes if they weren’t so much heavier than a rim brake bike. Well, now that no longer needs to be a concern with the Pinarello Dogma F12 XLight Disk. Lightweight, durable, and with disc brakes, this is a bike for heroic rides. And for making your friends envious at your group ride.
When the regular F12 and F12 Disk were released, we could be pretty sure that the F12 XLight would be shortly to follow. But we couldn’t be quite certain that there would be a disc brake version of the super light frame, since not every company is willing or able to take the weight off while still keeping it tough enough to add the disc brakes. Needless to say we are very pleased and quite impressed that Pinarello Dogma F12 XLight Disk still manages to cut some 100 grams off the regular F12, which means it weighs a very feathery 740 grams in a size 53. So you will feel the benefit of the low weight on those long, steep climbs and the security of the disc brakes on equally long descents.
To get the right mix of performance and durability for the lightweight bike with disc brakes, Pinarello has had to treat the F12 Disk XLight completely differently. Places like the fork shape have been adjusted so that the torsion under braking pressure has been reduced apparently by 40% compared to the F10 Disk. They have also changed the tube shapes and profiles compared to previous members of the F series. Pinarello have done that largely in a bid to make the frame more aero. Their success it evident in the claim that they have managed to reduce drag by 7.3%, which evidently translates into a saving of 8 watts at 40kmh, as compared to the F10. They have also increased the stiffness by 10%.
And if that is something that you may not entirely feel like you can take full advantage of, then feel secure in the fact that you will be able to appreciate how comfortable the F12 Disk XLight is. Tubing shapes and quality carbon layup has a lot to do with the comfort levels. So too does the fact that you will now be able easily to fit 28mm tires on the bike. Something else that will ensure total comfort is the fact that there are 13 frame sizes and 16 cockpit sizes from which to choose, meaning you will never have to compromise on frame size or the cockpit measurements. The Most Talon Ultra cockpit works perfectly with the TICR Total Internal Cable Routing, which will contribute to the seriously aero enhancements the F12 series has received. Integrating the cables and routing them through the bars and headset down to the brakes and gears improves not only the aerodynamics, but the functionality of the cable and the number of brake and gear combinations. And helpfully, the Most stem aero spacers come in two pieces so you can change your stack height without having to mess with all the internal cables.
The Pinarello Dogma F12 XLight Disk is not a bike that is meant to be hung on a wall and saved for good, but to be ridden hard, taken everywhere, and loved always.
