2019 Pinarello Dogma F10

Even though just about every Italian bike brand has given the Pope one of their bikes, we gotta think that it’s the Dogma F10 he would ride. Of course, the name may help, but a rose by any other name would still make the Pinarello Dogma F10 the most desirable, ridable bike in the peloton. And that’ll be three Hail Marys.

If you have ridden the F8 already, you are quite rightly wondering what improvement was possible. As a grand tour winning bike and renowned as one of the best balanced bikes in the pro peloton, the F8 occupies a rarified space. But Pinarello took what they loved about the F8 – the handling and all-round race geometry – but shaved some weight and improved the aerodynamics in real-world situations. The F10 is still intended to be the perfect bike for every situation, the top of the line all-rounder. And though they have made it lighter, it loses nothing in the stiffness department. Some of the credit goes to Pinarello sticking with the exceptional asymmetric design of the carbon layup. It means that the regions that take the brunt of the pedaling forces, like the drivetrain side for instance, receive a layering of the Toray T1100 1K carbon fiber that will increase its ability to withstand the forces, while allowing for a reduction in material used in other regions. That helps keep the weight down without sacrificing stiffness or durability.

Tube shapes have changed to a certain extent. The downtube has a new little indentation around where the water bottle cage will sit. That increases aerodynamics for when the bottles are in the cages, and provides a little opening to aid the Think2 internal wiring. Additional aero effects are borrowed from the Pinarello time trial bike the Bollide like the shaping of the fork legs to improve the air flow at this important leading edge. The crown of the fork has received a little aero lip at the back to smooth out the transition point between the fork and the downtube. The tapered 1 1/2 to 1 1/8 headset will increase strength and stability in steering. The direct mount front derailleur is removable if you fancy the idea of a 1x setup. Similarly the carbon dropouts are connected to a replaceable derailleur hanger so you can fix or replace it very easily. The bottom bracket sticks with the Pinarello love for Italian threading which makes it a pretty compatible frame for lots of cranks, and no worries about press fit squeaking. The frame fits up to 25mm tires; if you are a convert to 28mm road tires, you can take heart in the fact that Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski won the 2017 Strade Bianche on an F10 with 25mm tires.

The Pinarello F10 can accommodate internal cable routing both for mechanical and electronic groupsets, which enhances the aero qualities of the frame. The Dogma seatpost with a TwinForce aero integrated seat collar will also help keep the air flowing smoothly past you. The F10 frame weighs 820 grams in a size 53, which puts it in a respectable weight class, but not anything that will break any records. What this frame does do is give you a general level of high performance, comfort and durability that will help perpetuate its reputation for being the best road bike in the entire WorldTour peloton, not to mention in your neighborhood.
