2017 Parlee Z1
Though the Z1 was essentially the founding frame that made Parlee’s name as experts at handling carbon, you shouldn’t expect this to be anything but the most advanced and up to date customizable frame on the market. Perhaps the only frame that outpaces the Parlee Z1 is it’s younger brother, the Z-Zero, and only because it has managed to drop a little metal weight along the way. But that’s only natural for a younger sibling.
In fact the Z1 pioneered the type of carbon layup and joining that all custom Parlees use. The Parlee Z1 can be modified in one-millimeter and 0.1-degree increments in frame sizes from 40cm to 70cm. The custom carbon lug layup and the five tube set choices also means that you can get the exact geometry you want with a tuned ride quality. Choose from the UD uni-directional, which is the “standard” tube set, or go with the SL super light, the XL super stiff, the CL comfy compliant, or the X-woven which simply looks amazing. These different options will let you decide whether you want a rough and ready crit machine or a super lithe climbing masterpiece or a adventure-ready endurance traveler. Really, the possibilities are practically endless. Z1s are also available with semi-sloping geometry up to 8 degrees, so anyone looking for a nice compact fit will be very happy with this option. And for a super sleek look, internal Shimano Di2 or Campagnolo EPS wiring is also available, and external wiring for mechanical groupsets.
All this is possible because of the way Parlee works with their carbon layup. They use the bladder molding process for the tubing in order to layer the tube according to individual customer’s ride requests while using a minimum of wasted material. The elegance of the carbon lugging means that you will be able to enjoy the customization that makes possible without losing the classic silhouette we all love about Parlees. This custom carbon fiber lug lay-up combined with five tube set choices allows for perfect optimization and ride tuning. Z1s are also available with semi-sloping geometry up to 8 degrees. And at the center of their creation, the Press Fit 30 bottom bracket will also help keep the core of the bike responsive and make accelerating a snap.
Though you will probably be inclined to treat this precious baby with kid gloves for the first few rides, you don’t have to. The frame can fit up to 28mm tires easily, so you can certainly use it for your rougher roads or even gravel sections. Durability and comfort will never be limiting factors. The titanium rear dropouts instead of carbon is about the most obvious example of the sibling rivalry between the Z1 and Z-Zero.
All riders serious about their cycling should consider ordering a customized frame at least once in their lives. The Parlee Z1 is an ideal option for anyone looking for a lightweight carbon racing bike tuned precisely to your needs.
