2021 Parlee TTiR Disc LE

Though road cyclists can be a traditional bunch, and slow adopters of new tech, triathletes tend to be a lot more inclined to try fresh things, which is why it’s not surprising to find disc brakes appearing first on a TT bike that is intended to make life easier – and safer – for the triathlete.

Perhaps it’s important to say from the outset that this is not a UCI legal bike. Actually, that’s one of the things that makes it so exciting. The most obvious detail that throws it out of the UCI legal window are the dual carbon fairings that they designed to cover the flat mount disc brakes. This mitigates any drag that disc brakes may otherwise cause, but they have also been designed to avoid any potential for overheating brakes. Then the 12mm thru-axles will increase the lateral and torsional frame and fork stiffness which is so essential to making sure your pedal power is being transmitted to the road. It also makes changing the wheels, particularly the rear, much easier than is typical for TT and tri bikes. The thru-axle will ensure there is no brake rub. This will make life easier if you are simply changing from your training wheels to race day, but it will perhaps be a race day savior if you have a flat in the middle of an event, and need to do a quick tube change.

The mix of added convenience and improved performance when using disc brakes on a TT bike makes it seem strange that they haven’t been more widely used before. Just the sheer fact that you can brake faster and more reliably means that you can ramp up the speed as much as you like in all sorts of dry and wet conditions. Just knowing that you will be able to brake much later entering corners, means that you will be able to reduce the amount of energy you have to use sprinting out of the turns. Anyone who rides TT or tri bikes knows that unnecessarily losing momentum is just about the biggest enemy.

The carbon layup has been designed to help with those accelerations since it will yield very little laterally, aided by the smaller rear triangle keeping the back end rigid and a mega bottom bracket junction for efficient power transfer. The tube shapes have been used especially to cut through the wind with the help of wind tunnel testing, not to mention trying it out in a ton of real-world race situations. The TTiR Disc LE is a triathlon bike that will help make you go faster and stay more comfortable, at least as comfortable as you can be when riding your brains out.

Parlee has also incorporated a great deal of adjustability to their front end despite using an integrated stem for aero efficiency. The custom basebar works with the stem to provide a solid feel at the front end while the stem can be set in two positions 15mm front and back, with custom spacers making it possible for you to dial in that perfect fit. The Profile Design extensions also allow a great deal of customization in fit, so you will be able to get aero and comfortable at the same time. Similarly, the Parlee design for the seatpost allows you to adjust the seat up to seven degrees ensuring that you can get the most out of your powerful pedal stroke while remaining at ease.

For additional convenience they have incorporated bottle cage bosses on the down tube that will allow you to choose between two positions for mounting your bottle cages, and there are bosses on the top tube where you can attach a handy storage bag for easy access to your gels and patch kits. With internal cable routing, including a nifty front cover to hide all the brake and shifting wires at the handlebar region, the Parlee TTiR Disc LE has thought of everything. Available in four stock sizes, the TTiR Disc LE can also receive the custom treatment for an additional charge.
