2020 Parlee Altum Shimano Ultegra Di2 Bike

All road bike manufacturers are trying to balance the desire for a stiff responsive ride with the need for comfort, all while keeping the weight down. The Parlee Altum is a racing bike that can take a place at the front of the line for having found a way to balance those sometimes contradictory goals of frame building.

Even if we can all agree that slamming your stem looks very pro, most of us wouldn’t really feel comfortable riding like that. But having super tall headtubes or having tons of spacers under your stem are inelegant and inefficient ways to add a bit of comfort to our racing bikes. The designers at Parlee are aware of this and have developed the ingenious design where the top tube flares ever so slightly as it reaches the head tube. This results in being able to have a slightly higher stack while not compromising on handling or stiffness. It also gives the bike a distinct look. Combining that look with Parlee’s Flex Fit cap system will then allow you to find the perfect stack height for your riding style. The Flex Fit cap can give you three options of stack height from 8mm, to 15mm and 25mm integrated at the head tube without having to resort to spacers. The default position is the mid cap but there is an option for either the shorter or taller as well. The sharp handling will be enhanced by the new fork design with an integrated carbon crown that helps increase stiffness while shaving 20 grams compared to Z5 model fork.

As the rim brake version, this Altum is the lightest frame in the Parlee Altum lineup. It has been expertly designed using high modulus carbon fiber that has been specifically chosen to work best with the various requirements any elite frame will have: rigidity on one hand and compliance on the other. Parlee also uses something they call FEA, or Finite Element Analysis, which is computer modelling before they get to the physical testing of the frame designs. That makes it possible for them to decide the best possible carbon layup strategy to get the ultimate ride quality and durability while still keeping the whole frame light. Check out that beefy BB area, and you will have no doubt where the snappy, responsive ride feel comes from. And with the Press Fit 30 bottom bracket, you can fit just about any crank on there that you would want.

Tire clearance has been bumped up to 28mm so that you can get that added level of cushioning comfort and reduced rolling resistance. The Parlee Altum Disc is available in two specific builds either with Shimano Ultegra or Ultegra Di2. It is also available in six sizes from XS to XL, you will have no trouble finding the right match for you and your riding style.
