2019 Parlee Altum LE
Finding that balance between killer-instinct racing bike and long distance endurance bike has long bedeviled bike manufacturers. Most err, knowingly, on one side or the other. But the Parlee Altum LE gives you the chance to enjoy the hard core rigidity and snappiness that will get you through the most aggressive crit racing, while you will be able to get a more open-minded fit and enjoy the comfort of their expertly engineered design.
For anyone who is still very much committed to their traditional setups, this is the rim brake version of the Altum, which has the added benefit of keeping the weight low. Since this is the Altum LE, you have several perks and customizable options to enhance your ride even more. And the LE series is special among Parlee bikes since it includes a carbon cockpit, carbon water bottle cages, and options for custom finish. You will also have a choice of which cap size you want to have according to their Flex Fit Cap options. Typically the default position is the mid cap or 15mm rise, though you have the choice or an 8mm for a more aero position, or a 25mm if you want to take it a bit easier on your back. The sharp handling will be enhanced by the new fork design with an integrated carbon crown that helps increase stiffness while shaving 20 grams compared to Z5 model fork.
Once you have your fit decided, then you will be able to enjoy the ride quality of the high modulus carbon fiber that has been specifically chosen to work best with the various requirements any elite frame will have: rigidity on one hand and compliance on the other. Parlee also uses something they call FEA, or Finite Element Analysis, which is computer modelling before they get to the physical testing of the frame designs. That makes it possible for them to decide the best possible carbon layup strategy to get the ultimate ride quality and durability while still keeping the whole frame light. If you are familiar with other Parlee frames, you may be surprised to see the pronounced flaring of the top tube where it meets the head tube, and the seat tube as it intersects with the down tube and bottom bracket. Check out that beefy BB area, and you will have no doubt where the snappy, responsive ride feel comes from. And with the Press Fit 30 bottom bracket, you can fit just about any crank on there that you would want.
Since this bike can accept either mechanical or electronic groupsets, and will internally route the cables for both, you can build it up to be the dream machine you always wanted. Tire clearance has been bumped up to 28mm so that you can get that added level of cushioning comfort and reduced rolling resistance. Available in six sizes from XS to XL, you will have no trouble finding the right match for you and your riding style. And since this is the LE version, you will have the option to substitute parts and to select sizes when applicable. With the frame weighing under 800 grams depending on the size, the Parlee Altum LE will offer race ready performance in a package that will be comfortable enough for your longest days on the bike.
