2021 Parlee Altum Disc SRAM Force AXS Bike
Parlee doesn’t sponsor a WorldTour team. And that’s a good thing. One of the many benefits resulting in the creative company avoiding the sponsorship game is that they can design bikes to suit us regular folk. The Parlee Altum Disc is perfect for riders who are looking to push themselves, to find distant, seldom used roads, or even for those of us who want to put in a punishing attack on a steep climb, without having to have the flexibility of a gymnast.
Though just a few months ago, disc brakes on racing bikes were pretty controversial, it now seems almost a given that everyone will at least consider buying a road bike with the discs. The Altum makes a good case for that since it is a carbon frame that has managed to remain light while sporting the superior braking system. The frame uses the same engineering and design as the disc-less Altum model, but then includes a rear dropout that accepts QR135 as well as 142mm through axle wheels, which will be handy if you have multiple wheelsets or an old pair of wheels that are still quick release. The Parlee carbon disc fork also features a 12mm through axle design so that you will feel the stiff stability up front, aiding both your handling and confidence. And the frame can handle disc brakes either with 140 or 160mm rotors in case you feel your rides will require a bit more oomph in stopping power.
Adding to the comfort factor of Parlee bikes, they believe in giving you the choice in just how slammed you want your front end to feel. Race-ready or Fondo-esque? Are you in love with a rigid, responsive feel but don’t want to have to put that extra strain on your back to get into position? Then the Flex Fit cap can give you three options of stack height from 8mm, to 15mm and 25mm integrated at the head tube without having to resort to spacers. The default position is the mid cap but there is an option for either the shorter or taller as well.
The Parlee Altum Disc is available in two specific builds either with Shimano Ultegra or Ultegra Di2. And with six sizes from which to choose, as well as the three possible Flex Fit stack heights, you should have no trouble finding the perfect match for your size and riding style.
