2018 Parlee Altum Disc LE
Anyone looking for a new carbon road bike these days has so many options from which to choose, it can be a daunting task. Whether you are planning on killing your crit series, or want a lightweight and durable machine to take on mountain adventures, the Parlee Altum Disc LE will give you the benefit of lightweight equipment and disc brake capabilities to get you up and over any obstacle.
Even if you are used to having disc brakes on your mountain bike or have even enjoyed their performance on your gravel or cross bike, once you have that added stopping performance on your road bike that disc brakes can give, you will feel the confidence you need to go faster than ever. It’s kinda ironic that being able to stop better is what makes going faster possible, but it’s true. Whether you can enjoy dry, sunny rides or negotiate rainy, wet days on a regular basis, you can expect the same precise braking performance in all conditions. And then adding that level of controllability to a lightweight, comfortable frame like the Altum will turn Parlee’s lightweight carbon frame into a true distance racer.
To accommodate the different braking forces the disc brakes will necessitate, Parlee have adjusted some key parts of the frame and fork so it will be able to withstand the increased pressure on certain areas, but have still managed to keep the weight of the frame under 1000 grams. The frame uses the same engineering and design as the disc-less Altum LE model, but then includes a rear dropout that accepts QR135 as well as 142mm through axle wheels, which will be handy if you have multiple wheelsets or an old pair of wheels that are still quick release. The Parlee carbon disc fork also features a 12mm through axle design so that you will feel the stiff stability up front, aiding both your handling and confidence. And the frame can handle disc brakes either with 140 or 160mm rotors in case you feel your rides will require a bit more oomph in stopping power.
Something Parlee understand is that the geometry of high quality carbon bikes need to suit different types of riders with different goals and ambitions. That’s one of the main reasons that they have developed their Flex Fit cap so that you can have three options of stack height of 8mm, 15mm or 25mm integrated at the head tube without having to resort to spacers. So you can get low if you are looking to up the aero advantage, or keep the stack higher if you are more concerned about staying comfortable in the saddle for hours on end. And the LE series is special among Parlee bikes since it includes a carbon cockpit, carbon water bottle cages, and options for custom finish. This bike can accept either mechanical or electronic groupsets, and will internally route the cables for both.
The Parlee Altum Disc LE will be a great bike to take out for long adventures or snappy races. Rain or shine, this will be a bike that will perform effortlessly.
