2019 Orbea Orca M20i Bike
If you value the high quality materials and attention to details that go into making a top flight pro level racing bike, but don’t really want to strain your back and hamstrings getting into a pro tuck, and don’t have a WorldTour budget, then the Orbea Orca OME will be a great option to consider.
The Orca OME takes a lot of lessons from its older siblings like the Orca OMR and OMP, like how to offer a responsive yet comfortable ride, but without requiring the more expensive flourishes and easing up a little on the aggressive geometry. The designers make use of their deep knowledge of carbon monocoque frame building to ensure that the Orca OME will ride as snappily as you would want, with a responsiveness the belies its great value for money. And since we all can’t be flexible like a pro, the reach has been eased up and the stack raised ever so slightly compared to the pricier Orcas, so it won’t make you feel like you need to see an osteopath after every ride.
But the tube shapes and frame function largely remain unchanged. That means that the press fit 86 bottom bracket will form the same stiff foundation of the bike that you would expect, and works to keep the head tube, down tube, and chainstays super resistant to torsional pressures, committing itself to ever pedal stroke you make. Their knowledge of how to layup the carbon means that they can use the seat stays and top tube to work to dampen the road chatter without losing the feeling of communicating with the road. And ensuring the handling stays sharp, the Orca OME carbon fork and the full carbon tapered steerer tube will help you hold you line as if on knife edge.
The Integrated Aluminum Cup for the FSA 1-1/8 - 1-1/2" headset is one of those inconsequential places where they avoid using carbon to save you some money, but it will work beautifully and durably resist wearing out over even the roughest roads. The internal cable routing will keep the profile looking slick, and is compatible with electric and mechanical groupsets.
Available in seven sizes and three complete builds, the Orbea Orca OME will be the perfect bike for the ambitious road rider on a budget.
