2019 Orbea Avant OMP D
If you wince just looking at the super aero and aggressive setups most of the pros use these days, then you’ll likely be happy to get aboard an Orbea Avant OMP Disc. This monocoque carbon frame offers an endurance-oriented geometry and durability that will make the longest rides less of a challenge.
The Avant takes everything that Orbea believes is important in a high performance racing bike – like responsiveness, stable handling and comfort – and applied it to their endurance line. It’s snappy enough for the occasional road race or crit, but will really come into its own when you head out for those longer rides where the slightly higher stack and shorter reach will allow you to sit comfortably in the saddle for many hours. Being light enough to tackle grinding climbs, and then comfortable enough to feel like you are gliding over even the roughest roads, the Avant OMP Disc will get you through those tough rides that challenge our deepest determination.
The monocoque construction has received the OMP or Obea Monocoque Performance treatment, which means that it has a layup that mixes lightweight performance with long distance compliance and durability. Just perfect for the types of rides they envision you doing on this baby. The rigidity will come through when you are powering up a climb without a hint of flex, helped by the head tube, down tube, and chainstays remaining super resistant to torsional pressures while the seat stays and top tube work to dampen the road chatter to reduce the fatigue that can accumulate over long distances. And the press fit 386mm bottom bracket holds the whole thing together without a whimper.
By including disc brakes into the design, Orbea has increased the Avant’s versatility, making it possible to roll with wider tires for comfort while ensuring your braking power remains strong and constant no matter the terrain or weather conditions. And that can be important for those multi hour rides where you are likely to encounter wild swings in temperature and conditions. The OMP carbon fork has been given the necessary layup to withstand the braking pressures caused by discs without compromising ride quality or weight. And 12mm through axles in the front and rear will increase stability and responsiveness of the ride. The tapered steerer tube will add to the stiffness up front and keep the handling sharp.
The Orbea Avant OMP Disc comes in seven sizes and is available to receive the MyO customized color treatment from Orbea. It is the perfect bike to help relax your rides while increasing your distances.
