2017 Look 795 Light

Look has such a rich history in cycling from the first clipless pedals to the Mondrianian logo, it has always seemed to represent the old guard of the cycling establishment. But one look at the design and profile of the Look 795 Light racing bike, and you will quickly begin to question all your strongly held assumptions.

This is a bike that not only looks cutting edge, but uses a lot of cutting edge tech in the effort to make the most aero, top performing bike in the pro peloton. And if it looks pretty similar to the 795 Aerolight, that’s because it is. Most of the integration and all of the tubing technology is shared by these two bikes. The only difference is that the 795 Light does not have integrated brakes, but rather more typical brake arrangement in front of the fork and at the top of the seatstays. Even if this setup may be slightly less purely aero than the Aerolight, many people may actually prefer it since it take a level of complication out of care and maintenance.

Made from a mix of High Modulus 3K or 1.5K carbon fibers, depending on the job they need to do. Look has used its hard-earned expertise in working with carbon, and designed the tube shapes according to NACA (National Aerospace Committee for Aeronautics) profiles, giving it that cutting edge appearance that helps it slice through the wind way more efficiently than the more traditionally shaped Look 695. Just one look at the front end, and it is not hard to believe that this bike is a treat even in a full-on headwind.

For the bar-stem-top tube junction point, Look cuts out room at the top of the head tube so that it can make room for its high modulus carbon fiber Aerostem to sit flush up against the tube, with a little rubber cover to help keep the airflow smooth. The new optimized cable routing allows the cables to enter directly into the frame via a rotating piece that is part of the headset. And if you are worried how that will impact the level of adjustment, you can set the angle of the Aerostem from -13° up to +17°. And there is a full array of six stem length options from 80mm to 130mm, in 10mm increments.

Adjustability is key as well for the E-POST 2 EVO integrated seatpost. Integrated seatposts are not always overly popular because they can be a devil to get adjusted correctly. But with the updated clamping system, you will be able to dial it into a wide range of fore-and-aft adjustments to be certain your reach and set-back are exactly as you like. And the rigidity this design introduces into the design will be a treat each time you accelerate, while you won’t be foregoing a comfy ride since the outer elastomer absorbs most of the road vibrations that can cause fatigue.

The mega bottom bracket has been made fully from carbon to enhance the responsiveness you feel in each pedal stroke, while the bearings have been positioned on a carbon flange integrated directly into the frame to help with the rigidity levels. And the carbon monobloc ZED 3 crankset offers a staggering power to weight ratio. Very aero, and able to be adjusted in length using a trilobe nut. No question with this combo that all your power will be translated into speed.

Though the Look 795 Light is comfortable enough to act as a bike you can take on coffee rides or longer outings with your buddies, it is so fast and responsive, it is just begging to help you climb the leader board at your local races.
