2017 Look 795 Aerolight
There is no question that French brands like to do things their own way. And that’s cool, but you have to have an open mind approaching companies that march to a different drummer. You have to remember we are dealing with a national mentality that can take the Citroen 2CV and evolve it into the Renault Megane without the loss of any face whatsoever. The Look 795 Aerolight is a prime example of French design going a bit made and coming up with something incredible.
The 795 Aerolight has spent a lot of time in minds of its designers and then in the wind tunnel before hitting the roads. Made from a mix of High Modulus 3K or 1.5K carbon fibers, depending on the job they need to do. And what the Aerolight needs to do is be aero and responsive. So Look has used its hard-earned expertise in working with carbon, and designed the tube shapes according to NACA (National Aerospace Committee for Aeronautics) profile, giving it that cutting edge appearance that helps it slice through the wind. Look says it is 11.7% more aero than its more traditional looking 695.
But what really makes this an eye catching ride is the level of integration Look has mastered. Most obviously is at the front end with the bar-stem-top tube junction point. Look cuts out room at the top of the head tube so that it can make room for its high modulus carbon fiber Aerostem to sit flush up against the tube, with a little rubber cover to help keep the airflow smooth. The new optimized cable routing allows the cables to enter directly into the frame via a rotating piece that is part of the headset. And if you are worried how that will impact the level of adjustment, you can set the angle of the Aerostem from -13° up to +17°. And there is a full array of six stem length options from 80mm to 130mm, in 10mm increments. After all, adjustability is essential for comfort, and if you are not comfortable, you are not going to reach your top speed.
Another aero factor to this frame – and what sets it apart from the 795 Light – is the way they have integrated the front brakes, and hidden the rear brakes. And the E-POST 2 EVO integrated seatpost will enhance the rigidity of the frame without compromising vertical compliance thanks to the outer elastomer. The updated clamping system also allows a wide range of fore-and-aft adjustment.
Then adding things like the new 100% carbon bottom bracket allows them to ramp up the level of rigidity. Positioning its bearings on a carbon flange integrated directly into the frame helps with the rigidity levels while the carbon monobloc ZED 3 crankset offers a staggering power to weight ratio. Very aero, and able to be adjusted in length using a trilobe nut. So that the frame will give you the perfect platform to use all your power.
The Look 795 Aerolight does everything it can to offer you a responsive ride that will help you get your speeds up and your times down with its aerodynamic features and aggressive design. Available in five sizes, it will be the perfect bike to help you tackle your most important races.
