2019 Look 765 Gravel RS SRAM Force 1x Bike
For anyone looking to buy a gravel bike that feels more like a racing bike than an endurance or mountain bike, the LOOK 765 Gravel RS has the snappy acceleration that can often be missing from more adventure oriented gravel bikes. But if you still want to feel like you can take this baby for long slogs in the backcountry, it still has the versatility and tire clearance to give you the traction to ramp up the fun factor.
If you are planning on using the 765 Gravel RS for your own certified adventures, then you’ll be super happy that it is in the RS category for LOOK bikes, which means it has been made using the optimum combination of the highest quality of carbons that LOOK uses for their top range road bikes. That expert choice in layering and laying-up the carbon helps keep the bike both light and durable. And the fact that it is UCI legal means that you can still use it for those UCI-certified cross races you may want to jump into. It’s also future-proofed against the day when the UCI takes over the gravel scene, horror of horrors.
Tire clearance and wheel options is what really makes the 765 Gravel RS exciting, especially if you are looking to have one bike for all rides. It does come spec’d with 700 x 37 mm gravel wheels as standard. The tires are intended to find that right balance for the majority of the gravel riding you’ll be doing. But that doesn’t preclude the possibility that you can get a second set of wheels, this time in a size 650b, and then luxuriate on a pair of 2.1 inch mountain bike chunky tires. One bike, two sets of wheels, two completely different ride options. The geometry is pleasingly race-y, unlike a lot of the gravel options available, though LOOK still makes sure the Sport Endurance geometry can tackle the tougher stuff that will simply sing to you when rolling over the untamed backcountry. In particular, the position of the steering socket has been designed for taking on technical trails, and to facilitate a comfortable seat position over long distances.
To make this sort of versatility possible, LOOK tinkered with their rear triangles and developed what they call their 3D Wave Stays. It just means that they have softened the squared off tubes to have a flowy widening quality, effectively offering deflection points that enable a 15% increase in the natural flexibility of the carbon. That superior level of vibration damping is something you will appreciate over all terrains and distances. The design also widens the opening for the wheel at the rear to supersize the variety of tire options you can use. Wider rubber will also equate to greater comfort and traction.
For the cockpit, another area of concern if you are taking on some rough trails, LOOK made sure to keep it all very sturdy without adding extra weight. It’s what they call their Direct Drive concept. Using high quality aluminum for the integrated stem, it functions seamlessly with the rest of the front end, like the fork and bars to ensure serious rigidity and sharp steering. Stability is the name of the game when you are descending a trail with loose gravel.
With 12 different bottle cage inserts, the LOOK 765 Gravel RS will give you plenty of options for where and how much water you want to carry. Available in three specific build options, there is LOOK 765 Gravel RS ready to take on the adventures of your dreams.
