2020 De Rosa Merak
De Rosa is another one of those classic Italian brands that could be forgiven for resting on their laurels. However, they have done nothing of the kind. They have been pushing the envelope since the days when Eddy Merckx rode their bikes to countless victories, and now they are right up there with the most innovative brands around. The De Rosa Merak proves that this is a racing bike brand dedicated to making their bikes as light, slick, and comfortable as possible.
The De Rosa Merak is a disc brake racing bike made from high quality carbon fiber designed to keep the weight super low and the comfort super high. De Rosa uses innovative EPS production technology when laying up the carbon for the frame to keep it lightweight, stiff, and efficient in use of materials. EPS stands for Expandable Polystyrene System. That might not sound like it should have anything to do with carbon frame building, but actually it means that carbon sheets are molded around Polystyrene forms, and then put through the pressurization phase. It helps the carbon to meld seamlessly together with a minimum of waste. The end result is a lightweight and rigid frame ready for the toughest of competitions.
It comes as no surprise that the Merak is essentially now the top of the line climbing bike thanks to the low weight and the snappy responsiveness you’ll enjoy as soon as you get out of the saddle to put in a huge attack. The fact that it comes with flat mount disc brakes will enhance how much you’ll enjoy descending on it as well. De Rosa has also been careful to ensure the frame dampens road vibrations, which will make it ideal for any competitive Gran Fondo you may be interested in tackling. It’s the type of racing bike that will feel so good, you’ll want to take it on everything from your coffee ride to your 100+ mile Saturday suffer-fest.
And let’s not beat about the bush: the Merak looks just awesome. It is one of the first bikes from De Rosa to sport the updated brand lettering on the frame, which we just love. And then they have also made the effort to keep all wiring and cables internal. So with the disc brakes it makes it possible to wire everything inside the steering tube. That will make it not only more aero, but more pro looking. And coming in 8 sizes that offer size-specific geometry suitable for people who like to get into an aggressive race-ready position. The dedicated aero seat post comes with the frame and will enhance how slippery the frame is in the wind. The BB86 press fit bottom bracket helps keep the frame stiff enough for powerful accelerations and will accept a wide range of crank set options.
The De Rosa Merak is a pure carbon racing machine from a classic Italian brand that offers the benefits of more modern features like disc brakes and internal cable routing. Weighing around 800 grams, it balances the traditional with the innovative and will make you love your rides even more.
