2021 Cinelli Nemo Zagato Campagnolo Super Record Bike
We generally like to stay relatively neutral but we’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful steel frame bike than the Cinelli Nemo Zagato. Befitting its beauty, this is a celebratory 100th anniversary bike, and as such only 100 of them will be made.
It’s actually a dual 100th anniversary since both Columbus and Zagato were founded in 1919. You are almost certainly familiar with Columbus tubing, but if you are not a classic motor car aficionado, the name Zagato may not be well known to you. It is actually a design factory where many of the most famous cars in the world have been created, like the Alfa Romeo Tubolare Zagato. Even if you are not a car person, you can agree that that is a very pretty car. And since Columbus and Zagato have worked together since the early days of motorsport racing, it seemed only natural to celebrate their collaboration with one of the most beautiful steel frames in the world.
The Cinelli Nemo Zagato is made using Columbus Cento custom drawn tubeset which is lighter than regular Nemos thanks to the TIG welding. The naked color treatment, which is a super-thin coating of shiny nickel that highlights the perfection of the tubing’s surface, also saves grams. And the coupling points are reinforced with silver brazed steel plates, to improve the strenght of the frame without increasing its weight. Such a beauty! Much of the rest of the design comes from the Nemo Tig Disc, so you’ll get the disc brake capability with the Columbus Futura Disc carbon monocoque fork.
Since they have been able to make the tubes so thin yet durable, the Nemo Zagato has a weight much closer to a modern carbon frame. That doesn’t mean that it loses the classic feel of a steel road bike. The 44mm oversized downtube and the conical CNC’d head tube ensure that you’ll never be looking for more stiffness in the ride, while the classically shaped seatstays ensure a special bounce in the step. The frame can accommodate up to 28mm tires. The finishing kit is at least as mouth watering as the frame itself. All 100 have been spec’d with Campagnolo Super Record mechanical components and some seriously sweet looking Bora carbon wheels.
Though we’d have to be the first to admit that this is quite a lot to pay for a steel bike, one ride on the Cinelli Nemo Zagato no doubt will make us all believers. After all, what price perfection?
