2018 Cinelli Laser Mia

There aren’t too many brands that have the same name-impact on purebred cyclists as Cinelli. From components to frames, this is a brand that has been causing palpitations of desire for many decades. And perhaps the most lust-worthy frame in the line-up is the Cinelli Laser Mia.

Back in the early 1980s, Cinelli developed the Laser as an aero answer to UCI regulations, incorporating design aerodynamic elements that have only recently become common. And though the original Laser was steel and designed with track and time trial racing in mind, the current Laser Mia has been reimagined by the same development team that worked on the original to be a carbon frame for serious road racing. Made from high quality carbon fiber and entirely in Italy, the Laser Mia has incorporated a lot of the things that set the original Laser apart such as the bottom bracket which was repositioned initially on the track Laser to allow for a far shorter wheel-base and stiffening the bottom bracket area. The aerodynamic fin under the bottom bracket is also a nod to that first design, and has an aluminum cap tucked under the BB’s fin to offer easy access to the cables, and protect them from road spray.

The internal cable routing protects the lines and keeps everything looking clean and uncluttered. And the bike has been designed to accommodate both electric and mechanical groupsets. The rear CNC aluminum dropouts wrap the carbon core of the dropout to enhance the durability and longevity of that important interface. You can fit up to 25mm tires on the Laser Mia, which positions it firmly in the race bike category; if you want to do gravel, best look to one of the other Cinelli road bikes like the Nemo Tig or Nemo Tig Disc. The BSA English threaded bottom bracket will make life lots easier when choosing your crank and also eliminating any PF squeak potential.

The Cinelli Laser Mia weighs an impressive 980g with a lightweight 380g monocoque carbon fork is available in fifteen sizes starting at 48cm and ranging up to 62cm in 1cm increments. And the pale blue color that they call Azzurro Laser will stand out remarkably well against all the matte black bikes in the bunch.
