When you are looking specifically to buy a lightweight climbing bike, it might be a difficult choice to decide to go with a disc brake version. Is the added weight worth it? It certainly can be, especially when you consider the likelihood that you’ll be caught by some freakishly heavy rain storms just as you are cresting an Alpine pass. The CHAPTER2 Huru Disc takes into account your desire to keep things light, and the very probable need for a seriously effective form of braking when you have a 30 minute descent in the rain.

The Huru Disc does everything the rim brake version of the Huru can do, and then adds the safety touch that disc brakes offer. It means that you can head to the hills rain or shine with carbon rims and not feel like you are potentially taking a huge risk when it comes time to slow down. Heating up your carbon rims in the summer is just as dangerous as trying to brake with them in the wet. And since the developers at CHAPTER2 know what they are doing, there is a very slight weight compromise when ordering the disc brake version. You might be gaining 30 grams, but a huge amount of piece of mind as well.

The carbon layup, though taking into account the extra forces that disc brakes apply to areas like the fork and rear triangle, still stays super light by using the intelligent mix of high quality Toray T1000, T800 and 3K Directional Carbon. Not only choosing the right carbon, but including the generously sized press fit 86.5 bottom bracket and shaping the chainstay to offer a power transfer stiffness goes a long way to making the Huru feel solid and secure during those moments you are most vulnerable to flex. The carbon layup also avoids the harshness that often accompanies rigid bikes, with a cushioning compliance that will keep you comfortable without totally silencing the feedback and feel of the road. The thin seatstays offer a great level of vibration dampening, and the fact that you can fit 28mm tires on this frame will also ensure a huge level of comfort for those longer days in the saddle. With tire clearance like that, the Huru Disc is considerably more versatile than most lightweight bikes.

There is no question that this is the type of bike that will acquit itself well in a race situation. The geometry from the aero Rere has been carried over to the Huru, with slight differences that are intended to improve your position in a climbing position. So for instance half a degree has been added to the seat tube angle and the reach has been shortened ever so slightly so that you can settle into a performance oriented climbing position, especially for those efforts that last 45 minutes or longer. The seatpost with 0° setback will be included in the package, and helps you sit efficiently over the bottom bracket. The stack has also been slightly lowered, so that you won’t feel like you are a sail in the wind, but rather will be able to obtain a suitably aero position when you hit the flats again.

You will be able to build up the Huru to be the super bike of your dreams since it can work with any major mechanical or electric groupset. Available in five sizes, the handling will be equitable across all sizes since they have two options for the fork, where the XS and S come with a fork that has an offset of 53mm while the larger sizes have a fork with a 43mm offset. The CHAPTER2 Huru Disc falls in that category of climbing bike that still rides so well and offers the type of versatility that will make it ideal for rides of all length and in all terrains.
