2020 Basso Konos
For anyone who spends hours and hours every week training for those important triathlons or stage races that punctuate the summer racing calendar, investing in a time trial and tri-specific bike will do wonders to help you get the most out of your training. The Basso Konos is a UCI legal time trial bike that will be a perfect match for any tri race from Kona through to your local lakeside events.
The first thing everyone will want to know is just how aero the Konos is. Basso has taken a lot of time and trouble using computational fluid dynamics as well as wind tunnel testing to ensure that they found the best balance of aero profiles. It’s not only important to be fast in a full-on head wind, but you always have to take into account the efficiency at all yaw angles so that the bike is not acting like a potato chip in the wind and blowing off the road. And though Basso is not making its data available, the Konos certainly feels fast as the NACA tube profiles continue to do their magic. Bladed fork legs offer a sleek leading edge that has a mini peninsula that juts out to meet the down tube, effectively smoothing out the airflow towards the rear of the frame. The brakes have also been hidden behind the fork to increase the aerodynamic qualities. An integrated basebar uses adjustable airfoil shaped risers to make it easy to tailor to your preferred setup. The extensions are also integrated and adjustable.
The T700 Torayca high modulus carbon fiber that they use ensures that the frame can remain seriously stiff without having to worry about extra weight. And the BB86 press fit bottom bracket means that they can build up that essential region to keep the acceleration snappy, which will be important especially on those more technical courses. The handling in general will feel quite quick and those pretty short chainstays have been designed to increase traction and acceleration. The seatpost uses a clever integrated bolt that will allow you to set your saddle height with no fear of slippage, while the fore and aft adjustability of the saddle will ensure you’ll never be required to over stretch in the aero position. With internal cable routing and the ability to work with either mechanical or electronic groupsets, you will be able to build up the Konos to be one bad-ass TT machine.
Able to accommodate up to 23mm tires, the Basso Konos is a pure racing time trial and triathlon bike. It is available in three sizes: 51cm, 53cm, and 55cm, but the limited number of frame sizes is offset by the amount of adjustability that has been built into the design.
