2017 Argon 18 Xenon 650 Bike
If, when you were a youngster, you went directly from your BMX dirtbike to a full sized 10-speed with 700c wheels, you might be wondering why your kids can’t just do the same. Well, one of the main reasons is that they don’t have to. These days bike manufacturers like Argon 18 have considered not only the needs of adults when designing their bikes, but also the needs of kids and young adults who perhaps have not grown to full size and will benefit from riding bikes with smaller wheels and appropriate geometry. Et voilà: the Argon 18 Xenon 650!
As you’ve probably guessed, the 650 in the title refers to the size of the wheels which are 650c. Building the frame around this slightly smaller wheel size makes it possible for Argon 18 to keep the geometry size appropriate so that small riders can enjoy the same balanced performance of the larger frames in the Argon 18 stable. The lightweight double-butted aluminum frame combined with a carbon fork will ensure that this bike will be race ready. Properly responsive when accelerating, and comfortably compliant as a result of the efficient carbon fork, the Xenon 650 will keep things fun so that young legs won’t burn out. It will offer the performance level required for competition, and comfort level to make finishing a mass start sportif a snap. To enhance a feeling of control and safety, the Xenon 650 uses STI shift and brake levers so that the young riders will not have to remove their hands from the bars to shift.
All components included are adapted and chosen according to the needs of young, smaller riders. The 165mm long compact crank comes with 50/34 tooth chainrings while the cassette will have a 12-25 spread to give young legs the cluster range to feel confident enough to tackle some longer climbs. The handlebars are 36cm wide to offer an ideal amount of control for people with narrower shoulders. The Argon 18 ARS-J1000 saddle has been designed to accommodate smaller backsides for any distance.
As with all Argon 18 bicycles, the Xenon 650 has been developed to offer the perfect balance of compliance and rigidity, and will be the perfect bike for any young enthusiast looking to rack up the miles of freedom during the summer or even join the ranks of the weekend racers.
