2020 Argon 18 Gallium Pro Disc 15th Anniversary Edition
With all the fluctuations in taste and volatility of the bike industry, it is impressive when a company’s top range bike can last 15 years going from strength to strength. That is exactly what the Argon 18 Gallium Pro Disc 15th Anniversary Edition has been developed to celebrate as well as perpetuate.
This is not a celebratory bike just with a new paint job. Far from it. It is the next in a long line of Gallium improvements. For starters, they have managed to shave another 160 grams off this frame compared to the already very light Gallium Pro Disc. And they have accomplished this while making the frame even more durable and properly stiff. Argon 18 has always wanted the Gallium to be the perfectly balanced pro level racing bike in their lineup. So the low weight is also backed up by a responsive rigidity and long distance comfort that makes it an equally ideal companion for an aggressive racer and an endurance trekker.
One area that received quite a lot of attention was the fork, which only stands to reason since forks often quietly define just how a bike rides and feels. When the frame includes disc brakes, the quality of the fork becomes all that more important. In order to accommodate the forces disc brakes apply, it’s essential that the forks are given a durable layup, but developers have to be careful not to overweigh the front end or deaden the ride feel. The new design of this 15th Anniversary Edition fork finds that sweet spot of durability, weight and confidence-inspiring handling using high quality carbon layup and integrating a DT Swiss type 12mm through axle. This is a robust, reliable through axle system that facilitates wheel changes while increasing the stiffness of the front end for precise steering.
And as another step up from the latest Gallium Pro Disc, the Anniversary Edition has been designed to accommodate up to 30mm tires, instead of the 28mm. That will enhance the overall comfort and versatility of this bike. It means that you can strike out for the unknown without having to worry about backtracking if you should run into some terribly paved or even unpaved roads. And with its pro geometry which has been ridden to victory by some of the biggest names in the European peloton, this is a racing bike at its core that can also be amazingly suited for us more comfort-oriented riders.
The designers at Argon 18 have further updated this Gallium Pro Disc with a direct-mount rear derailleur that makes for easy use and smooth shifting even under pressure. In fact, the overall rigidity of the rear triangle will go a long way in making this frame extremely efficient in power transfer, and responsive whether accelerating or railing a descent. The Press Fit 86 bottom bracket also ensures that important carbon intersection will have the strength it needs to be efficient in working with your pedal power.
With the limited edition 15th Anniversary graphics, the Argon 18 Gallium Pro Disc 15th Anniversary Edition offers a nice antidote to the matte black brigade, without going bananas on the color and overall appearance. With six sizes from which to choose, going from XXS to XL, the Gallium Pro Disc 15th Anniversary Edition offers a wide range of sizes to find your perfect match.
