The Enve 65 wheels share much of the same technology as the 45s since they are both part of Enve’s well-priced Foundation Collection. It’s just the deeper 65mm profile that will shift the use of these away from the all-road options that the 45s encourage and focus a touch more on road and triathlon racing. However, since the level of durability is just as high with the 65s, there’s really no reason you can’t take them wherever the road takes you.
Enve has focused on creating the strongest rim structure possible. One of the most important innovations is that they have molded spoke and valve stem holes into the rim itself and not just drilled holes after the rim has been layered-up. It’s a process they have even patented. Not having to compromise the strength of the rim through avoiding drilling the holes but rather forming them directly in the production process means that the wheels are more resistant to impacts and are lighter since less material is needed for this stronger structure.
Durability and all-around ease of use has also been improved thanks to their development of the wider hookless bead on the rims. Making the hookless bead much wider means that they are much more resistant to damage or flats when impacted. They are only tubeless compatible, but you can choose to run an inner tube with your tubeless setup. Though the design also makes installing your tubeless tires tons easier as well.
They use the Enve Road Foundation hub which employs Enve’s core hub technologies like making sure the flange spacing and hub shell geometry are designed to maximize the wheel’s stiffness, especially on the drive side. And the full contact sealed NTN steel bearings will be basically maintenance free to keep you rolling long and far.
Aero Optimization of the Enve 65 Wheelset
The Enve 65 have been aero optimized to fit between 25 and 28mm tires. There are 24 spokes front and rear, and the pair weighs a very respectable 1621g. They are an amazingly well priced set of racing wheels that are light and durable enough for all sorts of rides over even the most terrible road services.
