2018 Transition Vanquish
The Transition Vanquish represents the sort of 29 inch hardtail that can come pretty close to doing just about everything you could want to do on knobby tires. Transition calls it the closes they get to making an XC racer, and it is more than capable of performing when you pin on a number. But what this bike is really all about is having tons of fun deep into the mountain woods.
The Vanquish, as a 29er carbon hardtail with the transition Giddy Up geometry, could be considered the mischievous twin of the Throttle. It’s as if they were separated at birth, and one grew up to be the bandit outlaw, and the other the successful politician. Of course, the trick is to tell which is which. With the Vanquish, the hints come fast and furious, since the 1400 gram frameset will feel so light and flickable, that you will feel capable of handling even the most technical courses, while the serious rollover of the 29 inch wheels wrapped in 2.4 inch tires will help you smash through any rock gardens and scale all sorts of scary-steep climbs. Once you want to point this baby downhill, the 67.5° headtube angle gives you that perfect balance for a slack and stable ride while the 120mm front suspension will help absorb all big hits while making sure you are keeping the best traction over the fast coming smaller bumps. Hardly a climb or descent will be beyond the abilities of the Vanquish. From your very first ride, you will feel why Transition call this the fast bike they have ever made.
With good standover clearance and room to go deep when dropping your seatpost, the Vanquish will be that rare hardtail you feel comfortable pushing the limits on the downhills. And that it offers Boost spacing means that you can go seriously bombproof with you wheels and tires, adding to the overall efficiency of the bike as something you can either chose to race or to rack up and take on multiday backcountry adventures. Other design choices that will make the Vanquish not only sexy and practical are the internal cable routing up front including the dropper post, and the rear external routing so you can easily access and maintain those important brake cables. The 73mm threaded bottom bracket is also an appreciated nod towards the practical. The 160mm post mount disc brakes will help you keep in control, no matter how frenetic your party on the trails may become.
