2019 Transition Throttle
As much as we all love to go deep into the backcountry, most of us have to admit that we seldom have the oodles of free time those sorts of trips take. But the local pump track? Oh yeah we can make a lunch date there or maybe after work. And then we have the weekend to head to the hills. If that scenario sounds pretty familiar, then the Transition Throttle may be the perfect bike for you. It is Transition’s most aggressive hardtail that is going to kill the jumps at the pump track and rage through your favorite weekend trails.
With 27.5 inch wheels and 140mm front suspension, you know this baby is going to be playful. And frankly, that’s the whole point. Transition has invested in making the Throttle in carbon to keep the weight down and the fun factor up. As a responsive carbon hardtail, you can wiz up the climbs since you won’t be hauling up all that extra weight a full suspension will add. And then the Giddy Up geometry with a slack 66° head angle, borrowed from the full suspension members of the Transition family, tangos with the 140mm front travel to help you tackle fast technical descents with fast times and serious levels of fun.
If you are dithering between going with a hardtail or committing to a full suspension, one thing you might want to ask yourself is what type of trails are you primarily riding? Not many of us are lucky enough to be an easy ride – or even easy car ride – from epic downhill courses. Most of us are doing the sort of trail riding that mixes hardpack fire roads with climbing through woods and looking for great vistas to enjoy before we can find the fastest and funnest way down. That is exactly where the Throttle will help you excel. It has those little hints of design that will remind even an early mountain bike adopter what the bikes were like in the early days, but then adds all the modern touches, like the geometry, Boost spacing with accommodation up to 2.6 inch wheels, internal cable routing for the front as well as the dropper post, not to mention the lightweight carbon frame, all of which results in just about the sweetest way to shred some fun in the woods.
The practicality does not stop there. With the 73mm threaded bottom bracket, you will be able to count on this frame remaining squeak-free and easily maintainable. ISCG mounts will make it possible to run a chain guide if you like, and the post mount disc brakes can take up to 160mm rotors. Available in four sizes, the Transition Throttle will give you that sort of thrill you had the first time you hauled ass down a dirt trail.
