2018 Transition Scout
As much as we all would love to have a different bike for every type of ride we’d ever like to do, that’s not always possible. The Transition Scout represents that ballsy sort of bike that can get up any hill and down any descent without feeling pushed to the limit. It’s a playful bike that wants to help you go bonkers on all your favorite courses, and be your go-to bike no matter the terrain.
Transitions calls the Scout their “mid-travel powerhouse” and you can see what they mean. The 27.5 inch wheels with Boost spacing can accommodate burly 2.8 inch tires, so you certainly would expect some serious enduro performance out of a set up like that. And then add the 130mm rear travel provided by the Fox DPX2 Performance Elite rear shock, with the front fork range up to 150mm, and you can start day-dreaming about the types of courses you could send this over. This is the sort of bike that you can start daydreaming about the BC Bike Race as easily as you can imagine yourself shredding your local bike park. The kinematics have been developed to allow you to find the pedal power you need whatever the terrain.
But what will make this more of an epiphany for you and your riding style is the SBG or Speed Balanced Geometry, that will help you feel confident enough to push your rides to another level. With SBG, Transition have balanced an ultra-long reach and a slack head angle with the need to be able to maneuver the bike over tight trails. They manage this because the SBG lengthens the wheelbase while reducing the offset of the fork and shortening the stem. That combined with the steep seat tube angle means that the rider will be in a great position for climbing. But then you can also expect the elevated levels of control that will keep the Scout playful and reliable. Then uniting the geometry with the Transition GiddyUp 2.0 suspension design will give the sort of plush ride that will get you through any rough patch without losing that thread of traction that helps you keep the speed up.
The Scout has a durable aluminum frame that will be able to withstand the big hits while still staying lightweight and nimble. Designed keeping practicality and utility at the forefront, the Scout has the Transition internal, rattle-free cable routing through the main triangle, while the rear brake line is exposed, facilitating an adjustments required. Similarly, the bottom bracket turns to the reliable 73mm threading, making it much easier to maintain and increasing the overall durability of the frame. Then the ISCG05 tabs will mean you can install a chain guide, but be aware the Scout supports only 1X groupsets since there is no front derailleur mount.
You won’t be missing anything on your serious trail rides if you take the Scout. Available in five sizes ranging from XS to XL, this will be a bike that will be the answer to your trail wishes, no matter how big you are. With the Transition Scout, you’ll be attacking trails that you’ve never ridden like they are baby slopes.
