2019 Transition Patrol Alloy

Even if you are looking to smash some of your enduro racing times, the first thing on all our minds when we swing a leg over our bikes is to have some serious fun on the trails. With this Transition Patrol, you will not only feel you have gained even more control of your riding but you will have that party feel when everything you do seems like a masterstroke of bike handling.

Transition is not one of the big name brands out there at the moment, but it is a company doing great things and very much ahead of the curve on their latest crop of designs. And you gotta feel for the life of a bike designer: all those hours spent tinkering with bikes and then test riding the latest new tweak, it’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it. What the guys over at Transition have done is rejig the way they think about the geometry of a bike, and have come up with their Speed Balanced Geometry, or SBG, as a way to work with the super slack modern geometry which is perfect for DH-ing while still making sure the handling stays snappy and agile. For 2018 they are rolling out several bikes using the SBG design, but it may be no more important than in this enduro offering. When you have to do at least as much climbing as you do descending, it only makes sense that the bike works equally well in both applications.

Transition have figured out how to balance the ultra-long reach and slack head angle with the need to be able to maneuver the bike over tight trails. They manage this because the SBG lengthens the wheelbase while reducing the offset of the fork and shortening the stem. That combined with the steep seat tube angle means that the rider will be in a great position for climbing. And the magic doesn’t stop there. They have updated their kinematics with the new GiddyUp 2.0 suspension design that makes it a slightly more progressive while the chainstays have been ever-so-slightly lengthened to increase the pedaling efficiency through the travel. So the 170mm travel up front and the 160mm Fox DPX2 Performance Elite at the rear will combine to get you through the roughest rock gardens and even get you thinking about some Whistlers Bike Park action. And since this frame designed for 27.5 inch wheels can accept up to 2.8 inch tires, you will really be able to send it, knowing that traction will always be there when you need it.

With the lightweight but robust aluminum frame you can feel comfortable flicking it through your favorite tight courses and know that it will be able to take the big hits. Though stuffed full of the modern design flourishes that we all love to see like Boost spacing and having ISCG05 tabs to accommodate a chain guide. You’ll also get internal cable routing for the front half of the frame and the dropper post, while the rear has external routing for ease of maintenance. You can always count on the Transitions practicality with the 73mm threaded bottom bracket. Transition have committed to the 1X way of life, so there is no front derailleur mount if you are considering building one up on your own. And since it comes in five sizes from XS to XL, you’ll likely find a frame that will accommodate you no matter your size.

The Transition Patrol enduro bike is extraordinarily well-mannered and will help you feel confident over courses you may have in the past found complicated.
