2017 Niner RIP 9 RDO
What do you get when you combine 150mm of suspension with a lightweight frame? You get Niner’s most capable trail bike.
The RIP 9 RDO confidently tears down the most technical of trails with the same control and traction as the heavy bikes. Only, this bike is more fun. The RIP 9 RDO has 150mm of suspension, which means it can float over obstacles others have to evade.
Niner calls its design for this bike [R]Evolution geometry. The main changes for the RIP 9 this year include a longer reach, which makes it possible to shorten the stem, good for better handling. They also steepened the seat tube angle which should ground the bike during steep climbs and fast descents. They shortened the chainstays all the way down to 434mm as well which makes the bike light and flickable. And that’s not all they’ve done.
CVA suspension is back again this year. It lets you climb up the mountain with lots of traction and descend the mountain with smoothness and control. CVA linkage works by pulling the bottom linkage down, leaving the upper rotating linkage free to react to the terrain. What you get is efficient, fun, fully active suspension, all the time. And this bike comes with a lot of suspension, 150mm of it, so you are free to charge hard and roll over anything in your path.
Niner has also built the RIP 9 RDO with Boost axle spacing. Boost allows them to keep the RIP’s chainstays short, yielding a responsive ride in spite of the healthy amount of suspension travel. But it also opens the door to building in tire clearance that could only be dreamed of previously. With loads of room for the average 29” trail tire, the RIP can also comfortably accommodate 27.5” plus tires, giving you the choice of what wheel and tire combination is right for you.
This is just a great all round bike. As ready for your next adventure as it is for your next race. Niner built a lot into this bike, but the main thing it built into it is fun. This bike is a joy to ride, so pick one up today and head to your favorite mountain playground!
