As the demands of trail riding evolve, the bikes have been shifting and moving with the riders’ needs. Just look at the Niner Jet 9 RDO. Niner bikes have been at the forefront of many tech advancements over the years, and are methodical about responding to what their riders want. With the Jet 9 RDO you’re getting a singletrack king, and a frame that can be tailored to your riding style since it can accommodate both 29 inch and 27.5 or 650b wheel sizes.

For a refined carbon layup, Niner uses their Carbon Compaction System which is a method of squeezing out excess resin during the molding process. That eliminates air pockets, reduces the material to save weight and helps them stay right in line with the tolerances for the wall thickness. Recognizing the long and low trend for mountain bike geometry, the Jet 9 RDO has been given a longer reach so that the stem can be shortened, quickening the handling. The shorter chainstays add to its popability since at 434mm, they will help give the acceleration an extra kick so you will definitely feel like flicking this frame around technical courses. But where the Jet 9 RDO really excels is climbing. If you love going into oxygen debt racing your buddies or even just your own best time to the top of a mountain, then this is definitely a bike you will have loads of fun pushing to the limits. The steeper seat tube angle will help with all that since you stay centered over the bottom bracket and can really feel all your power transferring to the pedals.

Of course traction is always key, whether you are hammering a climb or railing a descent, you can’t do anything if you’re not getting any grip. This Jet has been updated from earlier versions because Niner has used their Constant Varying Arc (CVA) suspension platform to thrash out 120mm of rear travel. It’s a clever link system where the bottom link is pulled down when you pedal so you can avoid squat, and in the meantime the top linkage always works to react to the bumps and impacts as you ride. Increasing not only the durability but the versatility of the design, the Jet uses Boost 148 spacing at the rear. The wider dimensions Boost offers means that the suspension kinematics can work well with long travel and short chainstays. The rear wheel, with the wider flanges at the hubs, beefs up and the wider dimensions also mean that the tire clearance increases making it possible to have clearance for 27.5 inch wheels with burly 3.0 tires as well as 2.5 trail tires for 29ers. These are new and exciting waters for the Niner Jet, where versatility and adaptability are key to their mentality.

That emphasis on choice extends to the types of setups you can run with the Jet. Whether you like the 1X or have stuck with a 2X to keep tight ratios for your climbing, you will be able to run whatever drivetrains you like. And if you shoot for the moon with an electronic groupset, they have made it wiring friendly and include an integrated battery storage in the frame. And the dropper post can have an internal or external setup. Niner has stuck with an old friend in the 73mm threaded bottom bracket to keep it easily serviceable while still offering the expected level of stiffness and responsiveness.
