2018 Niner JET 9 1-Star NX1 Bike
Unless you are focused on training for DH races a lot, most of your trail riding probably incorporates tons of different conditions and types of trails, which means a certain flexibility in what you and your bike can handle will be important. The Niner Jet 9 represents the ultimate in do-it-all trail slasher.
Though Niner started out as evangelical about 29 inch wheels, they are far from narrow minded about it. The Jet 9 has been designed with a geometry to suit the low and long preference for modern trail riding. The longer reach allows for a shorter stem to make for fast handling while the acceleration feels instantaneous with shorter chainstays, making the Jet 9 a joy to flick around technical courses. Not only that, but they have developed it so that you can run this frame with a 29 inch wheel and 2.4 inch tires or a 27.5 wheel size with tires up to 3.0 inch. By adding that ingenious layer of double compatibility, the Jet 9 aluminum full suspension frame can be the perfect foundation on which to build your perfect trail machine.
The versatility is key and made possible with the use of the Niner Constant Varying Arc (CVA) suspension platform that thrashes out 120mm of rear travel. It’s a clever link system where the bottom link is pulled down when you pedal so you can avoid squat, and in the meantime the top linkage always works to react to the bumps and impacts as you ride. Increasing not only the durability but the adaptability of the design, the Jet uses Boost 148 spacing at the rear. The wider dimensions Boost offers means that the suspension kinematics can work well with long travel and shorter 434mm chainstays. The rear wheel, with the wider flanges at the hubs, beefs up and the bigger dimensions also mean that the tire clearance increases making it possible to have that clearance for 27.5 inch wheels with burly 3.0 tires as well as 2.4 trail tires for 29ers.
By pairing the 120mm rear travel with a 130mm fork and the 29 inch wheels, the Jet 9 can handle whatever steep spots your trail riding may encounter. If you are planning on rolling with the 27.5 inch option, then Niner suggest going with a 140mm fork suspension so that you will be able to keep the the bottom bracket height relative to the smaller wheels. The 67.5 degree head angle will guarantee predictable steering, ensuring essential control. The durable alu frame has been given internal and external dropper post cable routing options, enhancing the flexibility of the frame setup. The BSA threaded 73mm bottom bracket will reinforce that durability for the frame and the ease of maintenance which is extremely important, especially if you are often riding in wet and muddy conditions.
The Niner Jet 9 will give you a balanced ride so you can take the roughest rock gardens with ease and still have the snappy handling that will shoot the fun factor through the roof.
