2017 Moots Mooto X YBB 29
If you like to do the sort of mountain riding that asks just that little bit extra that a hardtail can’t quite offer, but really would rather do without the hassle and weight of a full-on full suspension trail bike, then the Moots Mooto X YBB 29 just maybe will be the answer to your criteria.
Most of us don’t have easy access to serious DH trails, and even if we did, some of us with jobs and families would think twice about throwing ourselves down a vertiginously steep chute. For the sort of trail riding most of us do, the real chore is the climbing part, and that’s where the Mooto X YBB 29 excels. The titanium frame has tubes tapered according to the requirements of rough trail riding, so that the 44mm diameter of the headtube will promote sharp, sturdy handling while the 73mm English threaded bottom bracket will be stiff and responsive, while also remaining easy to maintain. The 29 inch wheels with 2.4 inch tires will give you that classic crazy rollover and grip that has made 29ers the industry sweetheart, and then the integrated rear shock will absorb just enough chatter to make this an ideal marathon mountain bike. With no external shocks or extra hardware for pivot points, the Mooto X YBB 29 keeps its weight down and its utility up. The Boost 148 x 12 through axle makes the rear triangle particularly stiff, while the ti chainstay offer the vertical compliance that allows the shock to give you that cushioning traction.
Moots wants to give you all the options in build possibilities as well. So they have make the frame compatible with front suspension with up to 120mm of travel. And internal cable routing is an option for electric drivetrains, which would make for a very slick-looking machine. The post mount brakes can accept up to 160mm rotors, which will offer great breaking power and great levels of heat dissipation. An internally routed dropper post would be a great addition to this frame for those times you really get rolling on a technical course. It can be set up either with a 2X or 1X, with a 38/28 or a 32 single being the ring capacity, respectively, so you will be able to get the gearing range that will help you tackle any climb.
The Moots Mooto X YBB 29 comes stock just in three sizes, but don’t let that throw you since custom sizing is a Moots prerogative, so you will always be able to get the set up that will work best for you. This will be the soft-tail answer to all your hard core trails.
