2020 Evil Bikes The Insurgent LB

Ever wonder where the Evil Bike’s frame names come from? We’d hardly like to pretend we are privy to the internal memos among the MTB gurus over there, but we can certainly imagine thinking of those first early California downhillers on wide-tired Schwinns as insurgents. Is there a sport more stuck in its traditions than cycling typically? Even mountain bikes get pigeonholed – enduro, DH, XC, all-mountain – everyone seems to need a tag. Or do they? Evil Bikes The Insurgent LB is there to give you the maximum fun no matter the trail. It’s a cheeky update for the original Insurgent with a few important enhancements, making it just that Lil’ Better, or LB for short.

Like all Evil’s bikes, The Insurgent is all about balance. Balanced handling, balanced suspension. This is a 27.5 inch mountain bike that will be able to take the big drops while shredding the descents. And with the addition of Boost 12 x 148mm rear end spacing, you will have serious confidence in its durability and your control. The frame has been made from Uni Directional Carbon with One Piece Molded construction to keep it lightweight and fantastically durable. Then making clever use of the DELTA System for the rear suspension pivot, The Insurgent takes advantage of a redesign which reduces the weight of the system while increasing the lateral stiffness. A dog bone link uses integrated forged bosses to connect the linkage which will incidentally make it easier to maintain too. A SAG meter on the non-drivetrain side will make it easy for you to customize your suspension setup.

But perhaps the best attribute of the DELTA is the utility and flexibility of the Flip Chip design. Using the Flip Chip allows you to change the BB height and head angle by flipping around the chip. So if you are into all day endurance tours, then you can stick on a 150 fork, set the Flip Chip to Low and have a 74.8° seat angle and the 66.1° head angle to work with. If you’re looking to kill it on some enduro trails, you can go with a 160 to 170 fork and stick the Flip Chip into XLow to get the slack, low slung position that will help you rail the descents.

There’s no way you’re going to want to avoid the hardest runs on this bike, so Evil has worked with eThirteen to include a fully integrated carbon chain guide to keep slap to a minimum. Feeling that you certainly won’t want to see you beautiful carbon frame gashed up with flying rocks or the occasionally misjudged landing, a molded rubber downtube protector will keep your frame free of unwanted gashes and nicks. an integrated rubber protector for the chainstay and seatstay has been included to keep things quiet. Internal cable routing for the dropper seatpost will ensure a crisp clean look. Something else new for the LB version of the Insurgent is the addition of water bottle bosses to fit a cage inside the front triangle. If you hate wearing a water pack, this will be a game changer. And those fashionistas out there can get excited about the two new colors for the Insurgent LB: a striking silver appropriately named the Freddy Mercury, and Yogurt Truck, which is a non-antiseptic white.

The Insurgent LB is a rebel’s bike, a bike for anyone who doesn’t want to be labeled. It’s a bike for hitting the trails, having all sorts of fun, and not caring if anyone objects. What are we rebelling against? Whatcha got?
