2017 Alchemy Arktos Custom
If you are like us, you probably think that “custom” is about the best word in the English language. Who wouldn’t want a custom bike? The Alchemy Arktos will give you the chance to fulfil all your wildest fantasies when it comes to building up your next mountain bike. With 15 color pairs from which to choose, you can work with the folks at Alchemy to create the perfect ride for your off-road needs.
Not only does this bike have personality, but it will help you improve your riding style by providing the perfect platform for you to descend in mad-control, and climb without losing tons of initiative in soft suspension. Since the frame is built around a 27.5 inch wheelset with 150mm of rear travel, you get the best combo of responsive pop-ability without compromising the plushness you need to keep your grip through rough rock gardens. Since this frame accommodates up to 2.4 inch tires, you won’t need to worry about losing the plot when you’re railing the berms.
The suspension uses a dual-link platform called Sine Suspension, which is the brainchild of David Earle. Earle has a long history of creating suspension systems for all sorts of clients, many of whom he isn’t allowed to talk about. But the Sine System is exclusive to Alchemy. It takes its name because when the shock wave is graphed, it resembles a sine wave. That means that the travel is regressive through the first part in order to absorb small bumps, and allowing you to climb without losing energy or grip. The midpoint of the stroke then is progressive to keep you nimble in corners without bottoming out on hard hits. Finally in the last 15% of the stroke, it turns regressive again so you can get the benefit of all six inches of travel. And since the design minimizes chainstay growth, you can still count on pedaling efficiently through rough patches, and if you have to feather or even slam the brakes, your suspension won’t lock up as a result.
The rear spacing has been designed to work with Boost 148, so that your rear will have the stable base to amp up the durability. With the Boost, your wheels will increase lateral stiffness since the spoke angles increase relative to the wider hub flanges. The front of the frame has been designed to be compatible with 150mm to 160mm forks, giving you a great option for a balanced, responsive suspension system. The 73mm threaded bottom bracket guarantees an ease of maintenance as well as durability through all sorts of weather and trail conditions. It is an X1 compatible frame, keeping the weight down and the setup simple. Internal routing for the brakes, shifters and dropper post also make sure that the look is clean. After all, it’s that the hard-candy smoothness and shine that makes these bikes so appealing. And it is also a sign of just how much care Alchemy takes to make sure every step of the frame building process is pristine.
The Alchemy Arktos custom frame gives you the chance to mix and match the two-toned frame design so that you can either keep it sober or go wild with color. Get creative and express your personality.
