There are a lot of brands out there trying to promote their dropbar off-road bikes as being suitable both for gravel grinds and cross races. However, in the case of the Basso Palta, the Italian company has doubled-down on their gravel bike design and created the Palta to be uniquely suited to mega grinds in the gravel.

The Palta, like all Basso bikes, has been made from beginning to end in Italy, and uses a high quality carbon fiber layup to ensure you’ll get the rigidity you need for accelerations over the top of rocky climbs, but the compliance to prevent your bum from going numb on those rough trails. The typically sporty Italian geometry has been toned down a touch to make the Palta a bit more endurance and comfort oriented. And in case you want to increase the endurance setup still further, Basso offers a “Palta Endurance Pack” that you can opt to buy on top, that offers 20mm additional spacers. But you don’t have to worry about it feeling a little lumbering since it still has the handling and responsiveness that help to make Basso among the nicest riding bikes on the market.

To enhance the level of comfort without adding weight, the Palta seatpost includes vibration dampening material, and the integrated seat clamp will be certain to retain a firm grip on the post, avoiding unwanted mid-ride slippage. The longer wheelbase compared to the road Bassos is intended to make this a seriously stable bike in unstable conditions. The fork has also been specially designed for the Palta in order to be durable enough to take the rougher roads, and rigid enough to offer that pristine handling. And since this is a gravel endurance bike, the fork comes with bottle cage bosses on both legs. You can really load up on as much water as you’ll need for the long haul because there are additional bottle cage bosses on the underside of the downtube.

The Basso Palta is a 1x specific design, so that you can enjoy a much wider range of gears to help you spin up those steep rocky climbs that would prove too much for traditional road gearing. Tire clearance for up to 42mm tires will also mean that you can stick some aggressive rubber on the Palta. Available in five sizes, the Palta has an optional “Palta Mudfest Kit” to include front and rear mudguards. With all these options to go high and get dirty, the Basso Palta will be the type of adventure bike that will keep you dreaming of your next epic.
