3T are convinced that 1x even on road bikes is the way of the future, and put their theory to the test last year when they released the Strada with a dedicated 1x drivetrain. It made waves, it got people talking, it even ended up being raced in the pro peloton for the 2018. But at the end of the day, it became clear that the future is not quite yet now, and there are still a lot of people who want to have a 2x drivetrain. And so wanting to make sure those people could have access to the rest of the clever innovations the Strada introduced, they have developed the 3T Strada Due Team.
They are not backing down from their convictions, but it is clear that a road 1x setup greatly limited the number of component manufacturer choices you could make, which was no fun especially for those Campagnolo devotees. So now, the Strada Due with the front derailleur can accommodate 2x setups from SRAM, Shimano and Campagnolo, but only the electronic versions of these groupsets. Aside from that, there is little to no change in the design. That means most importantly that you can still fit 30mm tires on the frame, which is where the majority of the comfort levels are going to come from. And you will get the benefit of the real-world aero design advocated by 3T frames.
So a lot of attention has been paid to things like the fork. So the fork crown receives an aero smoothing out with an easy transition to the down tube, while the fork legs are given the Sqaero truncated airfoil design which guides the airflow around the front wheels and increases front end stiffness at the same time. The matching Sqaero shape to the down tube and seat tube will combine to enhance the on-the-road aerodynamics especially at the speeds we will realistically be riding. And they have taken a new look at shaping the down tube in particular to mitigate any loss of aerodynamics that adding the front derailleur will cause. As much as 3T might love their 1x setup, they have really applied themselves to make this Due as great a bike as well.
Comfort is still key, and in addition to the nice wide tire options, they have built-in frame solutions with things like the Aeroflex of the seatstays; extremely thin they add a touch of vertical flex to save your bum from unwanted shock and vibrations. They are also so thin they practically disappear out of sight of the airflow created by the mega Sqaero down tube. And since the frame has been designed to be super stiff, ready for a powerful, stage-winning sprint, you can count on the Strada Due to also offer stable, consistent handling. The special Fundi aero fork helps in this area as well, with the solid connections between the fork legs and the Syntace x-12 through axle which is aerodynamically integrated and super stiff. The Fundi fork supports flat mount disc brakes with 140 and 160mm rotors. The disc adaptor to switch between 140 and 160 is completely integrated into the left fork leg shape, keeping very aero and slick looking.
Another thing that hasn’t changed is that the Strade Due is offered only in a disc brake version. It also keeps the multiple bottle boss set up which means there are two optional cage place on the down tube and then bosses for a cage on the seat tube. It gives you options for having either the most aero setup (one cage at the lowest setting on the down tube), or the more practical setup for those of us who do not have domestiques fetching bottles for us, with two cages, one on the down tube and one on the seat tube.
One more exciting thing of note, especially for those of us who are smaller and felt shut out by the sizing options for the Strade 1x, the Due has added an XS size to go along with the four larger sizes, though 3T does warn anyone who needs a smaller frame and using EPS to be aware that they might be limited in how low the saddle height can be set since the EPS battery is very long, and may start to touch the curved part of the seat tube.
The 3T Strada Due Team will give you the aero performance and comfort levels to make every ride a joy and every race a chance at victory.
