One thing all cyclists can agree on is that riding in heavy traffic sucks. It’s dangerous, loud and stressful. That’s one reason so many of us have glommed onto this whole gravel grinding movement. The Moots Routt RSL is the perfect performance-oriented gravel bike for anyone looking to escape the cares of road riding and take gravel grinds to the next level.

The Routt RSL has been the gold standard for gravel oriented bikes since it was introduced. But the designers at Moots found little places to tweak it that have made a great bike even better, especially for anyone keen on trying to tackle the new 350 mile option at the Dirty Kanza. For one thing, the RSL will now have clearance for 40mm tires. That will open up the possibilities in terms of tire choice, so that you can really balloon out for durability and comfort’s sake, or you can keep the tires a little narrower for those muddy days where clearance will be essential. But it’s the geometry that makes this Routt an RSL racer since the aggressive design will help put you in position to get as low and aero as you like. And there is no denying that keeping as much out of the wind can make or break your chances of stepping on the podium after 100 or 200 miles of gravel racing.

Of course, we have no intention of scaring you away from this bike with all this talk of 200 mile days out in the wilderness. The beautiful thing about the Routt RSL is that it really is a bike for all types of roads, and even if you don’t have any intention of ever turning a pedal in anger, you will get the full benefit of the RSL’s design. Do you live in an area that has pretty bad road surfaces and are tired of getting bounced around on your skinnies? This is the type of bike that you can still ride like a road bike, but one that will be much more forgiving over rough and broken roads. Or do you see yourself getting away from the crowds and taking on some rocky double track? This will be the bike for that as well. And everything in between.

Each bike has also been given size-specific tubes with things like tube thickness and shapes being strategically guided by the size of the frame. Smaller frames don’t need the same tube thickness as the larger frames, but that doesn’t mean that the smaller frames will be wigglier. And the classic 68mm English threaded bottom bracket will fit most any crank size and give you that smooth pedal feel without a squeak so that your hours on the trails won’t be marred by interminable press fit BB noises. The flat mount brakes with the 3D printed rear dropout allows for the disc caliper to be tucked inside the rear triangle to continue the clean look and offer that extra bit of protection from damage those times you take a tumble. Available in seven sizes with custom geometry always an option at Moots, so you will certainly be able to find the right fit for your needs. And as with all Moots, there are options for customizing the titanium finish as well as the decals. You can plan to build this frame up to the hilt since it can take electric groupsets with internal cable routing.

The Moots Routt RSL can be whatever you need out of a bike: it has the versatility to be your road warrior or off-road savior. It will help even the most devoted roadie to fall in love with gravel.
