Whether you are new to triathlons or are looking to improve your times on your local Tuesday night time trial series, the Argon 18 E-117 Tri will be the bike that will get you up to speed and cutting through the wind as fast as ever.
Though conventional is hardly the first word that comes to mind when you look at the E-117, this is the frame that has received the UCI’s benediction, and is legal to race in UCI sanctioned events, which includes anything put on by USA Cycling. If you are planning on hitting the road to travel to some of your most important events, then you will be very happy with how travel friendly this bike will prove to be since the cockpit and the wheels are easy to remove without complicated hardware or compromising the settings.
And getting the fit right in the first place has also been simplified and refined with Argon 18’s 3D stem system which offers three head tube heights for every frame size. This helps you to adjust the handlebar height using these specially designed head tube internals. It’s a huge improvement over the use of spacers because it will look cleaner and increases front end rigidity up to 11% compared to a 25mm worth of spacers. The aerodynamics have been the primary driving force behind the design, and keeps pace with the fastest time trial bikes on the circuit including Argon 18’s own E-118 Next. Designing the frame with a 78° seat tube angle, and then making the saddle position adjustable from +28mm to -28mm will help you find that balanced sweet spot between aggressively aero and long distance comfort.
The brakes for the E-117 Tri have also been specially designed to be aero and supremely effective. By concealing them behind the fork, the front brakes are hidden from any drag issues while providing the sort of stopping security that will help you feel comfortable waiting till the last minute to scrub your speed. The rear brake location above the dropped seatstay will also keep things aero while making it easy to access for any adjustment requirements. The internal cable routing will also do its part in keeping it looking sleek and remaining aero when you are battling a gusty wind. You can run a mechanical or electronic groupset for the E-117. Available in five sizes, from XS to XL, there is definitely an Argon 18 E-117 Tri out there for you, ready to help you smash your personal bests in triathlons or local time trial series.
