2017 Pinarello GAN 105 Bike
The GAN lineup comprises four bikes all new for 2016, the GAN, the GAN S, the GAN RS, and the GAN Disk. The most economical bicycle in the GAN lineup is the GAN. But make no mistake, this isn’t your typical entry level bike.
Like the rest of the GAN line, it is built with some of the best features of the race dominating Dogma F8. Like the F8, It comes with FlatBack down and seat tubes. The down and seat tubes have actually been turned into truncated airfoils, shapes usually found on the wings of airplanes that provide a ratio of more lift and less drag. This shouldn’t surprise anyone given that Pinarello’s house team is Team Sky. Also included in the aerodynamic design is an extended head tube and Aero Fork legs. The culmination of all these features is to make a bike that will slice through the wind. Sound revolutionary? It is, but it is what Team Sky asked for in the Dogma F8, from which the GAN borrows its design.
The GAN is made with the exact same mold as the S and the RS, the two higher ranking bikes in the GAN lineup. The only real difference is in the carbon. The GAN is made of T600 carbon while the S comes with T700 and the RS T900. The difference in carbon accounts for the difference in the stiffness of the frame. But the GAN is still a solid, responsive ride. More carbon is used to increase stiffness, which makes for an elite level bike, but a slightly heavier frame. The result of the extra weight is a bit less stiffness but a much lower price tag, and that makes the GAN 105 the most economical in the Pinarello lineup.
Other features that make this is a great bike is Pinarello’s Think 2 internal cable routing. The Think2 system makes the bike compatible with both electronic and mechanical cables, just like the Dogma F8. Also, like all new Pinarellos, it has an asymmetrical design. Because your bike is naturally asymmetrical, with your drive train on only one side of the bicycle, pedaling on a symmetrical frame will give a less efficient output. By removing some material on the right side and putting it at points it is needed on the left side, a much more efficient, fast pedaling machine is made. It is just one more detail that makes a Pinarello a Pinarello.
