2017 Parlee Altum
In the Altum lineup there is the Altum and the Altum Disc. The two bikes have geometries that are almost identical, (almost because the Altum disc has a slightly longer chainstay.)
The Altum is the lighter model and uses the highest modulus carbon fiber material. It is the perfect synthesis between what came before, the Z series, and the future.
There are some striking differences between Z series bikes and the Altum, although some things have remained the same. The Altum has more pronounced tube shaping and transitions. In particular the head tube flares out where it meets the top tube as well as the junction of the seat tube and the down tube at the bottom bracket region. The result? A strong, superlight frameset (750g frame/280g fork) With increased stiffness and better pedaling efficiency.
Parlee states that it’s not all about stiffness and weight but about a certain ride quality. They want it to feel “snappy” when you are out of the saddle sprinting, but be smooth in the saddle thanks to the compliance in the rear triangle. Also contributing to the overall smoothing of road vibrations is the new composite seatpost, weighing in at just 185g it adds to the overall lightness of the bike.
Other things new in this model are increased tire clearance. All the way from 23c to 28c. The fork design is also new this year. It has an integrated carbon crown that is 20 grams lighter than the Z series model, yet increases stiffness.
The Altum is adjustable too. Customers can adjust the stack of the Altum by choosing one of Parlee’s flex fit headset caps. The flex fit caps can extend the length of the headtube to an extra 8, 15, or 25mm. As it comes up, it comes back towards you- resulting in many stack and reach options.
You also have some options when it comes to paint. There is a stock matte black and three upgradeable paint finishes. All paint work is done in Massachusetts, USA.
This is an exciting new bike from Parlee. It is light, fast and smooth. The perfect bike for the person who wants to go fast, but doesn’t want to give up comfort.
