2017 Orbea Orca OMR
There are plenty of great bikes that offer flexibility, a relaxed, neutral position and mellow handling. Orca is not one of them. Orbea describes the Orca as being “designed for the guy who has already ridden 6000kms in February and can somehow sustain 500 watts in the middle of winter. The guy whose legs look like they are chiseled directly from the local mountains, the guy you have never beaten, and is always ready to make the pace. Orca is for professionals, hardmen, hardwomen and dedicated weirdos that have never even considered quitting early. Orca is for riders who spend so much time talking about watts and training that you wouldn’t dream of inviting them to your party, and they wouldn’t come anyway because it’s past their bedtime. Orca isn’t for everyone- Do you want to be fast?” If this quote from Orbea resonates with you then look no further. The Orbea Orca OMR just might be your frame.
Orbea has been working on their racing geometry for over 100 years. It is the perfect balance of responsiveness and stability. The riding position on the OMR is aggressive, like you would expect from a dedicated racing bike. Handling is precise and intuitive. Angles and dimensions are considered carefully across a range of sizes to move more power to the road with every pedal stroke. More power = more speed.
Another important feature of the Orca OMR is the monocoque frame. A monocoque frame is lighter and stronger than other frames. The frame uses a combination of T700, T800 and M40J fibers and prepreg laser sheets are cut to prevent overlap and excess. And the Orca OMR is stiffer than ever before to improve efficiency. Orbea has even improved comfort by reshaping and refining the layup schedule on the seatstays, seatpost, and top tube.
In terms of geometry and fit, Orbea has designed the new frames to offer a better fit for more people, with different sizes having linear changes in geometry, so each frame has the same ride quality and characteristics. The OMP and OMR will be available in seven sizes.
Orbea's road manager, Joseba Arizaga, has stated that the new Orcas are an evolution and refinement of the Orca, with the end goal being to create the best racing bike Orca has ever designed. Joseba said that the new Orcas are: "a reflection of an attitude for people who want to go faster and push their individual performances." So if this sounds like you, if you want to be fast, then you know what to do.
