2017 Orbea Avant OMP D
The endurance cyclist is a special breed of rider, unlike racers for whom speed is everything, endurance cyclists are all about the challenge. The challenge of cleaning the hill, the challenge of going one more mile when they have been in the saddle since before dawn, the challenge of staying on the road when the weather makes a turn for the worst, the challenge of seeing how tough they really are. People who are always seeking to surpass their limits need a special bike. That bike is the Avant OMP.
The Avant OMP is feature packed and designed with comfort and endurance built into every design element. In particular they use an endurance geometry, Dynamic Structure, a monocoque frame, a proprietary fork, and now, disk brakes. Make no mistake, this is a bike that will let you do things you never thought you could.
Racers are all about getting low and down over the handlebars, but endurance riding is different than racing. Understanding that, Orbea designed the Avant OMP to have a longer head tube, wheelbase and chainstay. The longer head tube pushes the riding position up and back which is far more comfortable. The longer wheelbase and chainstays help keep the bike grounded, improve handling and make the road smooth.
Also contributing to the smoothness is Dynamic Structure. On the Avant OMP the carbon layup creates a natural flex in the bike. When you combine that with the thinner seatstays and minimal bulk of the top tube you get a smooth ride, making the road seem better than it is.
It goes without saying that on a long day in the saddle it is easier to pedal a light frame than a heavy one. With this in mind, the team at Orbea designed a monocoque frame. They use high modulus and high strength fibers to reinforce the frame, without adding extra weight. Orbea explains that they use polyurethane bladder molding with inserts for the bottom bracket and headtube. This means they get rid of the excess so what you get is a frame that is light and strong, two things you need if you are going to be in the saddle all day.
The Avant OMP has a special fork. It’s longer than most forks, but the angle is shallower. This gives it more elasticity, tire clearance and torsional stiffness. It is just one more detail that makes the Avant OMP stand out as a premium endurance bike.
When weather conditions make a turn for the worse you have one less thing to worry about on the Avant OMP. The disk brakes work just as well in the rain as they do in the sun. And being disk brakes, the stopping distance is less than with other brakes, making your bike safer and letting you enjoy the ride.
The Avant OMP is a bike built for those who are always to do more- and it has the features that will let you.
