For this SES, or Smart Enve System, series, Enve is doubling down on their hookless bead design to create tubeless wheelsets that will put the U into utilitarian and the F into fast. With a 25mm inner rim width and the Wide Hookless Bead technology, these wheels can withstand all sorts of road conditions while still offering super low rolling resistance. Enve has decided that their hookless rim design for tubeless tires represents the ultimate in wheel options. A hookless rim design allows for machined metal tooling to establish a precise and consistent bead seat diameter, ensuring a safe and secure mating of rim and tire. The Wide Hookless Bead technology offers the additional advantage of reducing the chance of suffering punctures due to pinch flats.
With a rim depth of 39 in the front and 43 for the rear, the SES 3.4 wheels provide a great balance between wicked-aero and crazy-stable in cross winds. You could say that Enve has taken all its learned about hubs from partnering with the best brands on the market and designed their own hub that blows everyone out of the water. Starting from the hub shell geometry, the flange diameter, spacing and spoke hole lacing work together to ensure a stiff hub body with maximum power transfer.
Using cold-forged and machined 6061 aluminum keeps the body light as well as stiff while the custom made Premium Grade Stainless Steel Bearings and full stainless steel races guarantee long-lasting, non-corrosive performance even if you live in a particularly wet climate. Finally, the perfect bearing preload means that every wheel coming out of the factory has a tuned wave washer on the axle resulting in a long bearing life and maintenance free design.
Pinch-flat resistance, low weight, and an aero profile optimized around high-volume tires are key features of the SES 3.4, making it the most adept all-around wheelset. These rims have been aero-optimized for 27-28mm tires, though you can certainly fit much wider tires if you fancy big rubber.
