The Turner RFX has been completely redesigned for 2008. The challenge was to maintain the RFX's dominance among super-strong great pedaling uber XC/All-Mountain machines while shaving it's weight by 1.5 pounds. The 2008 RFX is described by Dave Turner himself as "the perfect moab bike". Great for fast rollers into tight single track littered with drops, rocks and fast launches. It’s at home on the highly technical controlled speed sections as well as the wide open all out sprint sections. When compared to the 5 spot, the RFX has a 1 degree slacker head tube angle plus a slightly taller reinforced head tube for double crown front forks. Along with it’s shorter top tube and lower bottom bracket height, the rider’s position rotates ever so slightly to a rearward bias center of gravity. This makes for a more upright seating p¬osition perfect for the all mountain / Free Ride styles of riding where the rider has to become much more dynamic for quick bursts of climbing to fast controlled descents. Another departure from the 5 spots 5.5 inches of rear travel is the RFX’s 6.4 inches of rear suspension travel. It’s rear end firmly held in place by Turner’s Journal Bearing / Bushing system when in action melds with the rearward bias rider position and slightly lengthened chainstays and sinks into the terrain just enough to snap back immediately into a sprint when desired. The similarities between the 5 spot and RFX as described by turner are the impressively efficient pedaling and similar build weights. The pivot right above the RFX bottom bracket sits just bit higher than the 5 spot’s to accommodate the lower bottom bracket height and added swing of the rear end thus maintaining a minimal amount of chain growth throughout the suspensions travel while pedaling. Weight wise the RFX can be built up very similar to a 5spot and come within a pound and a half of the spot. But why? With it’s added rear travel and front suspension sweet spot at 160mm, it begs to be built for those trail aggressors whose equipment is designed to be ridden hard!
