Indy Fab

Independent Fabrications, Inc. was formed in 1995 by a group of experienced bike frame builders who wanted to start their ideal employee-owned and operated company after most had lost their jobs due to the closing of Fat City Cycles. Since their inception, Independent Fabrications has maintained a grassroots approach to building their business and their bikes. Over the years, they have collected the talents of other like-minded folks who boast a reputation for their craftsmanship, drawing on experience form other factions of the industry as well as from their shared passion to ride. Straight from the horse’s mouth, “The most important job in building an employee-owned company is to craft a culture over time that brings out the best.” They succeeded after building the company from the ground up, and continue to produce frames from their hub in Somerville, Massachusetts. The result of all their work to date has formed a dedicated following of Indy Fab enthusiasts who swear by the company’s name and products.
Their work began with steel frame fabrication and today they are known as one of, if not the, world’s premier steel frame builders. Indy Fab’s first effort was the Deluxe, a steel hardtail with its roots in the technical New England trails. People took notice pretty fast and wanted to give the Deluxe a roll. One of the first athletes to take Indy Fab to the podium was Johnathan Paige, back when he was just an up-and-coming cyclist. Set up with a Deluxe mountain frame, he went out to destroy the Expert field back in the 1995 NORBA Nationals. Gretchen Reeves was spotted riding a Deluxe in 1996. Adventure race veteran Christina Begy was among the first of a core group of riders who would elevated their careers riding Indy Fab frames, while at the same time elevating the Indy Fab name within the cycling industry as a source for high-end, hand-made, American-built steel frames.
While the basis of their product line stays true to their belief in steel’s durability and ride quality, they have expanded their product development to include titanium models as well. True to the Indy Fab culture and their industry leading talent, they could not make just any Ti frame. They wanted to build the industry’s best Ti frame. This originally came in the form of their custom double-butted Titanium Deluxe. Never a group to rest on their laurels, Indy Fab partnered with suspension designer extraordinaire Dave Weagle to create the Tungsten Electrode, a dw*link equipped full suspension wonder. All of their bikes have to be seen to truly appreciate the intense level of detail. Also not to be overlooked is the fact that every frame is full custom. Yes that’s right, Indy Fab produces each frame using custom geometry, tube selection, paint and decals. With Indy Fab you get the bike of your dreams built just for you, any way you like it.
